The UJ-2 is quieter, but it may be the clearest expression of the new chapter shaped by Kari Voutilainen and Alex Rosenfield.
At first glance, it’s a precious-metal dress watch with small seconds and a power reserve display, yet its calm face conceals one of the more sophisticated escapement choices in contemporary independent watchmaking.

A restrained case with sharper history
The UJ-2 measures 39mm across and 10.9mm thick, dimensions that keep the watch firmly in elegant daily-wear territory despite its precious-metal construction.
It is offered in 950 platinum or 5N rose gold, each with a stepped bezel that alternates polished surfaces with satin accents.
The case middle is gently brushed, creating a softer transition between the architectural bezel and the more sculptural lugs.
Those lugs are one of the watch’s defining details.
They reinterpret Urban Jürgensen’s historic teardrop form, rotated and sharpened into something more contemporary without losing the old-world character that has long been part of the marque.
A large fluted crown sits at 3 o’clock, while the sapphire caseback is framed by circular Grain d’orge guilloché, an unusually elaborate treatment for a component many brands leave plain.
The dial turns restraint into architecture
The UJ-2 dial is made from solid silver and then finished galvanically, a traditional approach that gives the surface a crispness lacquer or stamping rarely match.
Its layout is deliberately asymmetrical.
The hour and minute hands sit slightly above the dial’s geometric centre, while the oversized small seconds display occupies a broad position near 5 o’clock.
A fractional power reserve indicator sits at noon, linking the UJ-2 visually with the other inaugural models in the revived collection.
Hand-guilloché work gives the dial its depth.
The outer section carries circular Grain d’orge, the small seconds register uses Clous de Paris, and the smooth central field keeps the composition from becoming too ornate.
Roman numerals sit around that central zone, while applied precious-metal chapter rings and open-tip Jürgensen hands bring the dial into sharper focus.
Platinum models are available with silver or blue dials, and the rose gold case can also be paired with either silver or deep blue.
The rose gold and silver combination is the most classical of the four, but the blue dials give the design a cooler, more contemporary register.
A natural escapement beneath the calm
The back of the UJ-2 tells the more serious story.
The manually wound calibre UJ-2 is laid out with the spaciousness of a traditional pocket-watch movement, using broad bridges, generous negative space and wide separation between the wheels.
It measures 32mm in diameter and 5.5mm thick, runs at 18,000 vibrations per hour, and stores approximately 52 hours of power from a single barrel.
The movement is not just built for this watch.
It also forms the mechanical base for the UJ-3 Perpetual Calendar and has been conceived as a platform for future Urban Jürgensen complications.
Its signature feature is the direct double-wheel natural escapement, a mechanism closely associated with Abraham-Louis Breguet and later refined by figures including Derek Pratt, George Daniels, Kari Voutilainen and Laurent Ferrier.
Instead of relying on a conventional Swiss lever arrangement, the system delivers direct impulses to the balance through two escape wheels.
The intended advantage is greater efficiency and reduced need for lubrication at the impulse surfaces, with Urban Jürgensen estimating roughly 30 percent improved efficiency over a conventional Swiss lever escapement.
The regulating organ continues the traditional high-watchmaking approach with a large free-sprung balance, Phillips overcoil, Grossmann inner curve and fixed stud arrangement.
Finishing is treated with the same seriousness as the architecture.
The bridges have warm rose gold plating over finely textured grenage surfaces, the bevels are broad and hand-polished, the mainplate is decorated with perlage, and the wheels receive satin finishing with carefully chamfered spokes.
