Louis Vuitton’s Tambour Convergence has always been one of the quieter surprises in the modern Tambour family.
Now the compact à guichet watch returns in Mirror Steel, trading precious metal warmth for a cooler, more technical character without losing the polished restraint that defines the model.
It’s a meaningful addition because the Convergence sits apart from the usual run of window-display watches, using a round Tambour case and two dragging discs rather than a rectangular jumping-hour layout.

At a glance
- Louis Vuitton has released the Tambour Convergence Mirror Steel as part of the permanent collection.
- The 37mm watch uses a hand-mirror-polished strengthened steel case and an arched window with dragging hour and minute discs.
- It is priced at EUR 26,000 including taxes, below the rose gold version listed at EUR 38,000.
A round take on the à guichet watch
The Tambour Convergence is Louis Vuitton’s interpretation of the montre à guichets, a watch style built around time shown through apertures rather than conventional hands.
That format has been enjoying renewed attention, but Louis Vuitton’s approach is distinctive because it keeps the Tambour’s round, drum-like silhouette instead of adopting the more common rectangular case.
The display also works differently from a jumping-hour watch.

Hours and minutes are shown by two dragging discs visible through an arched sapphire window set into the upper cover of the watch.
For the Mirror Steel edition, those discs are made from satin-finished brass with a galvanic rhodium treatment, giving the display a tone that sits naturally with the steel case.
The tracks, markers and numerals are printed in black, which keeps the whole watch in a restrained monochrome register.

Mirror steel with a harder edge
The new case is made by La Fabrique des Boîtiers, Louis Vuitton’s own casemaker, from a special steel alloy with a hardened surface.
Its surface hardness is rated at 1130 Vickers, a figure presented as far above conventional 316L steel at around 150 Vickers and only slightly below high-tech ceramics used in watchmaking.
That matters because the case is entirely hand mirror polished, a finish that looks clean and unforgiving when fresh but usually makes owners nervous about marks.

Louis Vuitton notes that this polishing process requires about three times more work than on gold, which gives the steel version a surprisingly artisanal point of interest.
The proportions carry over from the rose gold edition, with a 37mm diameter and a slim 8mm profile.
The lugs are polished on top and micro-blasted on their inner surfaces, a small contrast that adds depth to the otherwise sleek Tambour form.

A sapphire crystal caseback remains in place, and water resistance is rated at 30 metres.
The LFT MA01.01 inside
The Tambour Convergence Mirror Steel is powered by Louis Vuitton’s in-house LFT MA01.01 automatic calibre, a movement also used in the Spin Time collection.
It runs at 4Hz and delivers a 45-hour power reserve.

The movement is wound by a gold central rotor, visible through the caseback, with finishing that includes sandblasted bridges, micro-sandblasted bridge edges, perlage on the mainplate and polished bevels.
The rotor carries an LV motif around its periphery, while the movement uses colourless jewels rather than conventional magenta synthetic rubies.
That visual choice suits the watch’s colder palette, keeping the view through the back aligned with the steel and rhodium tones on the front.

The watch is worn on a grey Saffiano leather strap with a strengthened steel pin buckle, a pairing that reinforces its dressier, architectural personality.
At EUR 26,000 including taxes, the Tambour Convergence Mirror Steel gives Louis Vuitton’s window-display watch a more contemporary and arguably more versatile expression than the precious-metal versions.
It’s still an unconventional watch, but that’s the point: compact, polished and quietly technical, it shows how the revived Tambour family can move beyond the expected codes of luxury sports watchmaking.
