Purple becomes one of 2026’s most versatile dial colours
Purple can be soft, moody, technical or ornate depending on the shade, which is why it’s such a useful colour for modern watch design.
A pale lilac dress watch says something very different from a smoked violet chronograph or an amethyst dial layered with aventurine.
Seiko has given the colour a more cultural reading for its 145th Anniversary releases, using purple across several lines as a symbol associated with the future in Japan.
Elsewhere, independents are treating purple less as a seasonal flourish and more as a platform for dial craft.
Under £1,000 watches with proper personality
The Orient Bambino 40.5mm in plum purple is the obvious entry point, pairing a classic dress-watch shape with an automatic movement and a price of £294.99.
It keeps the format approachable with a date window at 3 o’clock, a leather strap and an exhibition caseback showing the Orient F6724 calibre.
The Santura × Bauche Nebula Amethyst takes a more playful route, using a layered dial made from amethyst, purple fumé mother-of-pearl and black aventurine.
Its rocket-shaped hour markers at 9 and 10 give the watch a sense of humour without losing the appeal of a 38mm stainless steel case and Miyota 9039 automatic movement.
Seiko’s 145th Anniversary Alpinist “Edo-Murasaki” HBC006J1 is the most robust of the sub-£1,000 choices, with a 39.5mm stainless steel case, screw-down crown, 200 metres of water resistance and the 72-hour calibre 6R55.
Limited to 7,000 pieces worldwide, it wears its lavender dial in a field-watch format rather than leaning into overt dressiness.
Studio Underd0g’s 02SERIES Nightshade brings a darker, almost indigo tone to the group, using a deep fumé purple sunray dial beneath a 1mm tinted sapphire top layer.
At £875, the Nightshade is also notable for its manual-winding Sellita SW200-2 M movement and 63-hour power reserve.
Limited editions and craft-led independents above £1,000
Christopher Ward’s The Twelve (Ti) Pic’n’Mix Berry Burst uses a crystalline-textured dial with a vertical purple gradient that runs from light to dark.
The 36mm Grade 2 titanium case also marks the return of this compact size within The Twelve family, and both a titanium bracelet and rubber strap are included.
Metrical Watch brings a more unconventional display with the Epiphany Twilight, which uses a central minute hand and a rotating 24-hour disc rather than a conventional hour hand.
The sun indicates AM hours and the moon indicates PM hours as the disc moves past a static 12-hour scale, giving the purple dial a more poetic sense of timekeeping.
Junghans keeps things restrained with the Meister Chronoscope Violet, a 150-piece limited edition that balances a fumé violet dial with the brand’s clean indexes and three-register chronograph layout.
Its automatic J880.1 movement adds day, date and chronograph functions, while the domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal keeps the familiar Meister profile intact.
Awake’s Son Mài Guilloché Main Sunset is one of the most craft-focused pieces here, combining traditional Vietnamese lacquer with Italian guilloché engraving.
The purple dial is intended to evoke low light moving across gently undulating ocean waves, and the watch is limited to 200 pieces.
Fears takes the gentler route with the Redcliff Pale Lilac, a slim 39.5mm stainless steel watch measuring just 9.98mm thick.
Its La Joux-Perret G101 movement is visible through the exhibition caseback, complete with the Bristol brand’s signature flower rotor.
