It’s still recognisably Daniel Roth, but the black-and-gold execution brings a sharper sense of theatre to one of the maison’s purest time-only designs.

A darker take on the double-ellipse case
The Extra Plat is built around Daniel Roth’s double-ellipse case, one of the most distinctive shapes in modern independent watchmaking.
Here it measures 38.6mm by 35.5mm and just 7.7mm thick, keeping the proportions firmly in dress-watch territory.
The case is crafted in polished 5N rose gold and uses the brand’s ellipsocurvex profile, with the central gadroon giving the outline its familiar architectural edge.
A flat anti-reflective sapphire crystal sits over the dial, while a sapphire caseback opens the view onto the movement.
Water resistance is rated to 30 metres, which is entirely in keeping with the watch’s formal, highly finished character.
The gilt dial carries the personality
The dial is where this version separates itself from the lighter Extra Plat models.
Daniel Roth starts with a gold dial base, then applies a fine pinstripe guilloché pattern by rose engine, executed by a single artisan.
The surface is then treated through multiple electroplating steps to create the deep black finish.
Rather than printing the Roman numerals, signature and individual dial number on top, these elements are masked during the finishing process.
Once the masks are removed, the underlying gold is exposed, making the markings appear to rise out of the black ground rather than sit on it.
The result is a more dramatic Extra Plat, with rose-gold indications, a gold minute track and matching rose-gold case working together rather than competing for attention.
The shaped DR002 movement keeps it thin
Inside is the Calibre DR002, a manually wound manufacture movement developed and assembled at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton.
The movement is shaped for the Extra Plat case and measures 31mm by 28mm by 3.1mm, which helps maintain the watch’s slim profile.
It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 65-hour power reserve from a 143-component construction with 21 jewels.
The movement finishing is deliberately traditional, with Geneva stripes, polished bevels, internal angles, polished countersinks, mirror-polished steel parts, circular-brushed wheels with bevelled spokes and a circular-grained main plate.
There’s also a bar click in the winding mechanism, chosen to give the act of winding the watch a more tactile feel.
