BYD’s luxury ambitions are about to get a very visible new flagship.
The Yangwang Altior, teased officially last month, has now been seen without camouflage ahead of its scheduled debut in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 8, showing a large electric sedan designed to sit far above the mainstream EV conversation.
It’s being positioned in the rarefied space occupied by cars such as the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, with scale, chrome and ceremony doing much of the talking before the specifications arrive.

At a glance
- BYD’s Yangwang Altior ultra-luxury sedan has been spotted undisguised before its Nov. 8 Abu Dhabi debut.
- The car shows a large grille, chrome detailing, LED daytime running lights, rear-hinged doors and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor.
- Pricing is expected to start around 2 million yuan, or approximately $300,000, though final specifications remain unconfirmed.
A flagship sedan with global intent
Yangwang is BYD’s high-end brand, and the Altior appears to be its most direct move yet into the ultra-luxury sedan class.
Images attributed to Dong Ermeng show a long, formal silhouette with proportions that echo traditional chauffeur-driven luxury rather than the crossover-led direction of much of the EV market.
The reported dimensions underline that intent, with the Altior expected to measure around 5,500 mm in length and ride on a 3,350 mm wheelbase.
That would put it firmly in limousine territory, where rear-seat space, visual presence and quiet authority matter as much as acceleration figures.
Chrome, monoblock wheels and rear-hinged doors
The front end is dominated by a large grille, even though the Altior is expected to be electric, giving the car a deliberately ceremonial face.
Distinctive LED daytime running lights, generous chrome detailing and large monoblock-style wheels add to the formal look.
At the rear, the sedan uses rectangular tail-lamps, keeping the design language more restrained than experimental.
The rear-hinged doors are among the most notable details, with the latest images suggesting they can reportedly open up to 90 degrees.
A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor also appears on the car, pointing to advanced driver-assistance hardware, though BYD has not confirmed the system’s final capabilities.
Electric luxury, still waiting on the numbers
The Altior is expected to use four electric motors, and it could also feature a hydraulic suspension system.
Those details remain unconfirmed by BYD, along with the battery specification, performance figures and range.
That leaves the Nov. 8 Abu Dhabi debut to do the heavy lifting, especially if BYD wants the Altior to be discussed alongside the established names in ultra-luxury motoring rather than simply as a high-priced EV from China.
Pricing is expected to start at around 2 million yuan, which is approximately $300,000.
