Ressence has built its identity around a display system that looks almost impossible until you understand the mechanics behind it.
The TYPE 10 DN, nicknamed Dark Knight, matters because it brings the brand’s oil-filled architecture together with a proprietary base movement for the first time.
It also moves Ressence into a sharper visual language, with a darker, more angular case that feels less pebble-like than the brand’s earlier forms.

At a glance
- Ressence has introduced the TYPE 10 DN, its first oil-filled watch powered by a proprietary movement.
- The watch combines the ROCS 10 oil-filled display module with magnetic transmission and the RW-04 automatic calibre.
- The TYPE 10 DN is limited to 100 pieces and priced at CHF 45,000 excluding taxes.
A darker, more angular Ressence
The TYPE 10 DN keeps Ressence’s seamless design philosophy, but the execution is more assertive than the soft, organic cases that defined much of the brand’s earlier work.
The 41.5mm case is made mostly from polished grade 5 titanium with DLC coating, giving the watch its deep blue Dark Knight tone.
That same colour runs across the dial and integrated rubber strap, creating the impression of one continuous object rather than a watch head attached to a strap.

The domed sapphire crystal blends into the case profile, helped by the oil-filled display that visually pushes the dial toward the surface of the glass.
A second double-domed sapphire crystal sits on the back, while the bezel is built from 24 individual titanium segments.
Those bezel elements mix radially brushed larger sections with sandblasted inserts filled with luminous paint, adding texture without breaking the watch’s monochrome character.

The ROCS 10 display and its oil-filled architecture
The display follows the language seen on the TYPE 7, with a central convex titanium disc for the minutes and three eccentric biaxial satellites inclined at 9.75 degrees and 17 degrees.
Those satellites carry the hours, a second time zone, a running indicator and an oil temperature indication by colour inside the hour satellite.
The running indicator rotates over 120 seconds and also functions as a shock absorber.

The oil-filled construction is more than visual theatre, as it removes the apparent gap between crystal and dial and gives the display the distinctive depth associated with Ressence’s oil watches.
Mechanically, the TYPE 10 is built around two hermetically sealed chambers.
One chamber is air-filled and contains the base movement, while the oil-filled chamber houses the ROCS 10 module.

The RW-04 drives a minute disc fitted with micro-magnets on the air side, while a matching disc in the oil mirrors that motion without a direct mechanical connection.
The magnets sit 0.2mm apart, separated by a 0.1mm titanium membrane.
Because oil expands and contracts as temperature changes, an expansion chamber compensates for volume shifts and helps prevent gas bubbles from forming as the oil cools.

The temperature display turns green under normal conditions, stated at around 25 degrees Celsius, plus or minus 10 degrees.
The RW-04 calibre brings more autonomy
The larger technical shift sits beneath the display.
The TYPE 10 DN uses the RW-04, a self-winding calibre evolved from the RW-01 introduced in the TYPE 11.

Ressence designed the movement and produces it with Concepto, replacing the ETA-based base movement previously used in the brand’s oil-filled watches.
The RW-04 can be hand-wound and is adjusted through the caseback.
Its double-barrel architecture gives the watch up to 60 hours of power reserve, despite the demands of the oil-filled module above it.

The watch contains 538 components in total, including 196 in the oil-filled ROCS 10 module and 252 in the RW-04 calibre.
Across the construction, Ressence lists 49 gears, 47 jewels and eight ball bearings.

The TYPE 10 DN is the sort of Ressence that will make the most sense to collectors who already understand the brand’s obsession with display architecture, but it also clarifies where the independent watchmaker is heading.

By pairing the oil-filled system with its own movement platform, Ressence has made one of its most distinctive ideas feel less like a spectacular exception and more like the basis for a new generation.
