Australian opal gives the dial its identity
The immediate shift from the earlier DCR-01 is the dial, which trades a hammered metallic surface for natural Australian opal.
Green and blue examples show the kind of chromatic movement that makes opal so effective on the wrist, with tones that change as the watch catches light.
A red edition is also planned, though production across all Carbon Opal variants remains tight.
Didier Cavasino personally selects each stone, which matters because opal is never truly uniform.
That individuality gives the DCT-02 a less clinical personality than many modern tourbillons, while still keeping the architecture disciplined and legible.
Carbon and titanium keep the case featherweight
The case construction is the other major departure from the full-titanium DCR-01.
Here, the main case body and lugs use forged carbon, with its familiar irregular pattern created as carbon fibres and resin are compressed under heat and pressure.
Titanium remains present for the bezel, caseback and crown, giving the watch a cleaner frame and a more technical contrast around the organic dial.
The result is a watch that should wear notably light, helped by compact proportions of approximately 39mm across and 10.5mm thick.
That size is important because the DCT-02 isn’t trying to make its tourbillon feel impressive through bulk.
A large 60-second tourbillon with revised finishing
The automatic tourbillon movement follows the symmetrical architecture used in the earlier model, but the decoration has been reworked for this edition.
The micro-rotor now carries the hammered texture previously associated with the first model’s dial, while the mainplate has a softer frosted finish that gives the movement a more muted technical backdrop.
The twin barrels have also been updated with guilloché engraving, adding a brighter point of detail when viewed through the caseback.
Mechanically, those twin barrels deliver a 70-hour power reserve.
On the dial side, the 60-second tourbillon completes one rotation per minute and doubles as a running seconds display through its indicator and surrounding scale.
It occupies a large portion of the composition, so the watch reads as a tourbillon first and a stone-dial piece second, rather than the other way around.
Limited production and the next step for Cavasino
Only 15 DCT-02 Carbon Opal watches will be produced, split between 10 green or blue examples and five red examples.
Cavasino plans 50 DCT-02 watches in total across different finishes and materials, matching the 50-piece run of the DCR-01.
Once the combined 100 watches from this inaugural project are completed, the brand is expected to move on to a new project.
No official price has been announced for the DCT-02 Carbon Opal.
For loose context, the earlier titanium DCR-01 was priced at CHF77,000, though the opal dial, carbon case construction and revised finishing make direct comparison difficult.
