Tissot Gives the 40mm PRX Powermatic 80 a Mother-of-Pearl Dial

The Tissot PRX has become one of the most familiar names in accessible integrated-bracelet watchmaking, largely because the collection refuses to sit still.

Its latest addition brings a white mother-of-pearl dial to the 40mm PRX Powermatic 80, giving the full-size automatic model a softer, more reflective character without changing the formula that made it work.

It’s a small update on paper, but an interesting one in practice, especially for a watch that trades so heavily on dial texture, case geometry and everyday wearability.

Mother-of-pearl has already appeared in the smaller PRX line, but its arrival in the 40mm automatic case gives the material a different presence.

The white mother-of-pearl surface is worked with the collection’s familiar tapisserie-style pattern, so the iridescence sits beneath a graphic texture rather than overwhelming the watch.

The rest of the watch follows the established 40mm PRX Powermatic 80 layout.

The stainless steel case measures 40mm across and 10.9mm thick, with a 44mm lug-to-lug measurement before the first bracelet link.

That puts it in the larger PRX camp, but still in a size range many buyers will recognise as a contemporary daily watch.

The case combines brushed surfaces with polished accents, while the sapphire crystal, exhibition caseback and 100 metres of water resistance help keep the package practical.

The integrated stainless steel bracelet uses a triple-folding clasp with safety push-buttons and an easy-change system.

Tissot also offers compatible leather and rubber straps separately, allowing the watch to shift away from the full-steel look when desired.

The Powermatic 80 keeps the value argument strong

Inside is the Tissot Powermatic 80 automatic movement, a modernised calibre derived from the ETA 2824-2 architecture.

Its calling card is an 80-hour power reserve, which gives it a clear everyday advantage over many conventional automatic movements in this price range.

The movement also uses a Nivachron antimagnetic hairspring and runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour.

For buyers drawn to the PRX for its balance of design, mechanics and price, the mother-of-pearl dial adds visual variation without turning the watch into a different proposition.
