Parmigiani Fleurier Dresses Its Hidden-Complication Tonda PF Trilogy in Platinum

Parmigiani Fleurier has chosen platinum for a quietly spectacular anniversary statement.

To mark 30 years of independent watchmaking, the Fleurier manufacture has created a three-watch Tonda PF trilogy built around complications that appear only when they’re needed.

The idea is very Parmigiani, with mechanical cleverness kept out of sight until the wearer asks for it.

The new trio brings together three of Parmigiani Fleurier’s most distinctive recent ideas under a single material language.

Each watch is crafted in 950 platinum, from the case to the integrated bracelet, with a sandblasted platinum dial completing the monochromatic effect.

The familiar Tonda PF codes remain intact, including the slim case profile, the finely knurled bezel and the integrated bracelet that gives the collection its relaxed architectural feel.

What changes here is the weight, rarity and tonal discipline of the execution.

Platinum can easily feel ceremonial, but Parmigiani uses it with restraint, leaning into matte texture and compact proportions rather than overt display.

GMT and minute functions that disappear on command

The Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante is the traveller’s watch in the trilogy, though it avoids the usual visual clutter of a dual-time display.

It uses two superimposed hour hands, with white gold hands for local time and a single 18k rose gold hand for home time.

When the second time zone is no longer required, the rose gold pusher inside the crown activates the rattrapante mechanism, allowing the local-time hand to catch up and cover the home-time hand.

The result is a dual-time watch that can return to the visual simplicity of a two-hand dress watch.

The Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante applies a similar philosophy to short-duration timing.

Instead of placing a rotating scale on the bezel, it builds a countdown idea into the movement, using a hidden 18k rose gold minute hand that can be advanced in five-minute or one-minute increments via the teardrop pushers on the case.

Once the timing task is finished, the gold pusher in the crown sends the countdown hand back beneath the main white gold minute hand.

It’s the sort of complication that feels practical without becoming visually busy, which is exactly where the Tonda PF line tends to be at its strongest.

The chronograph with no permanent chronograph display

The Tonda PF Chronographe Mystérieux is the most mechanically theatrical of the three.

It’s an on-demand flyback chronograph with no sub-dials, using a dedicated PF053 calibre and a monopusher at 7:30 to transform the display.

In normal use, the watch presents civil time with three central hands.

Press the monopusher and those hands reset to zero to take over chronograph duties, while two rose gold hands emerge to continue showing the time.

A second press freezes the chronograph indication for elapsed hours, minutes and seconds, while a third press retracts the chronograph mode and restores the watch to its clean time-only display.

Among the three pieces, it also carries the highest stated water resistance at 100 metres and the longest power reserve at 60 hours.
