Laps Studio Arche Brings an Automatic Movement to the Parisian Design Brand

Laps has built its name on watches that treat the dial as a small canvas, often leaning into graphic art, architecture and contemporary visual culture.

For its tenth anniversary, the Parisian brand is changing the conversation with the Studio Arche, its first automatic watch and the debut model in a more mechanically focused line.

It’s still recognisably design-led, but the emphasis now extends to case construction, finishing and proportion in a way that feels more grown-up without losing the brand’s character.

A rounder, more architectural direction for Laps

The Arche marks a clear departure from the rectangular language that has shaped much of Laps’ earlier work.

Its 37.5mm stainless steel case is round, compact and deliberately restrained, with a 44mm lug-to-lug span and a thickness of 9.8mm.

Those dimensions place it firmly in everyday territory, especially for anyone who prefers a watch that sits neatly rather than announces itself through size.

The case is built from five separate elements, a construction choice that allows the individual surfaces to be finished with more precision.

Brushed and polished areas are used throughout, while the bezel pairs vertical satin finishing with polished bevels for a more layered effect.

The arched lugs are the signature gesture here.

Each lug is individually machined and attached to the case middle, giving the watch both its name and its strongest architectural cue.

A flat sapphire crystal covers the dial, while the screw-in caseback is fitted with a slightly tinted sapphire window that brings the automatic movement into view.

Four dials split between Mineral and Minimal

The Studio Arche launches with four dial options across two visual families.

The Mineral versions come in Green and Ivory, using a textured matte finish inspired by contemporary architecture.

The Minimal versions are offered in Blue and Black with a glossy enamel-style surface that creates a more reflective, polished appearance.

Across all four, the applied hour markers are slim but not flat.

Their faceted forms mix brushed and polished surfaces to create the impression of volume, changing with the light rather than relying on heavy ornament.

The hour and minute hands follow the same language, with asymmetrical shapes and alternating finishes that add visual tension while keeping the display legible.

The seconds hand is especially pared back, reduced almost entirely to a central cap with a polished facet that catches light as it rotates.

A diamond-shaped date window at 4 o’clock adds a small but distinctive twist, avoiding the usual rectangular aperture without making the dial feel forced.

The Miyota 9015 adds credible mechanical content

Inside the Arche is the Miyota 9015, a familiar automatic calibre used widely across accessible mechanical watchmaking.

It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers approximately 42 hours of power reserve.

The movement provides central hours, minutes, hacking seconds and a date display, giving the Arche a practical everyday specification rather than a purely aesthetic upgrade.

Water resistance is rated to 50 metres, which suits the dress-leaning profile and daily-wear positioning of the watch.

Each model is fitted to a leather strap with a custom steel pin buckle.
