Jeremy Clarkson’s Grand Tour Cars Are Heading to No-Reserve Auction

Jeremy Clarkson is letting go of three cars with unusually strong ties to The Grand Tour.

The trio spans Italian coupe character, American personal luxury and a Lancia with a farewell-episode connection, making this less a routine garage clear-out and more a small piece of modern motoring television history.

Each appeared in a different chapter of Clarkson’s post-Top Gear television career, which gives the sale a very particular appeal for collectors who follow the personalities as much as the machinery.

The Alfa Romeo GTV6 was used in the 2019 episode “Well Aged Scotch”, the Scotland road trip that took Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond along the North Coast 500.

The Lincoln Continental Mark V appeared in the 2021 special “Lochdown”, bringing a slice of late-Seventies American excess to the trio’s pandemic-era adventure.

The Lancia Montecarlo Spider has the most emotionally loaded connection, as Clarkson drove it in “One For The Road”, the final episode of The Grand Tour.

The Alfa Romeo carries a personal Clarkson thread

The GTV6 stands out because Clarkson had owned one before and later regretted selling it.

That makes this 1983 example more than a television prop, especially as he acquired it from its 83-year-old first keeper when the car had covered just 20,000 miles.

It now shows 28,315 miles, which still puts it in the low-mileage conversation for an Alfa of its age.

The GTV6 has long been admired for its Busso V6 character, transaxle layout and lean Eighties coupe shape, although the confirmed auction details here centre on its history, mileage and screen appearance rather than a full mechanical dossier.

A no-reserve sale at the NEC

All three cars will be sold without reserve at Iconic Auctioneers’ NEC Classic Motor Show sale on November 14.

A no-reserve format gives the sale an added edge because each car is expected to sell on the day, whatever the final bid lands at.

Clarkson has said he rarely gets the chance to enjoy the cars now, and that they should go to someone who will.

For bidders, the attraction is likely to be a blend of nostalgia, celebrity provenance and the fact that these are interesting cars in their own right rather than anonymous studio background pieces.
