Jaguar’s next chapter is about to become real metal, and the Type 01 is already shaping up as one of the most debated luxury EVs of the year.
Set for a New York unveiling on October 6, the production-spec electric GT keeps the bold proportions of the concept while adding more definition where it matters.
It’s not a subtle reset for Jaguar, but that appears to be the point.

At a glance
- Jaguar will unveil the production-spec Type 01 electric GT in New York on October 6.
- The four-seat EV carries over the concept’s dramatic profile with a high shoulder line, tiny glasshouse, flush handles and a more detailed front fascia.
- Performance is expected to come from a tri-motor electric powertrain producing more than 1,000 hp.
A limousine stance for Jaguar’s electric reset
The Type 01 doesn’t look like a conventional grand tourer in the old Jaguar mould.
Its proportions lean closer to a stately electric limousine, with a long, clean body side, a high shoulder line and windows small enough to make the door mirrors appear oversized.
The front end is less blank than the concept preview suggested, helped by blacked-out elements and slim LED lighting that give the car a more resolved face.

Flush-fitting door handles keep the sides visually clean, while the charging port sits on the front fender.
That placement is a small but telling detail, since it breaks up what is otherwise a very architectural body surface.
A sparse cabin with neo-retro cues
Inside, Jaguar appears to be moving away from screen-heavy excess without abandoning digital functionality.

The Type 01 is set to feature a simple dashboard layout, a small vertical touchscreen in the centre, a wide digital driver information display and a two-spoke steering wheel.
The result should feel deliberately pared back rather than stripped out.
That neo-retro direction also suits the car’s broader brief, which seems less interested in chasing familiar luxury EV formulas and more focused on giving Jaguar a recognisable new design language.

Performance expectations are suitably ambitious
The Type 01 is expected to use a tri-motor electric powertrain with output of more than 1,000 hp and 959 lb-ft of torque.
If those figures carry into the final production car, Jaguar’s electric GT will sit firmly in the high-performance luxury EV conversation rather than simply serving as a design statement.
The bigger question is how Jaguar tunes the car’s character.

For a brand so closely tied to elegant, long-distance performance, the Type 01 will need more than straight-line force to feel convincing.

Jaguar has chosen a risky path with the Type 01, but risk is often what a legacy luxury brand needs when familiarity starts to feel like inertia.
If the finished car can match its visual conviction with a polished driving experience, this could be the EV that makes Jaguar feel unpredictable again.
