Daniel Roth has expanded the Extra-Plat line with a new platinum edition, due from May 2026. The watch keeps the thin, time-only format of the existing models but shifts the character toward a more restrained look, using a 950 platinum case, anthracite pinstripe guilloché dial and black-coated gold hands.
A quieter take on the Extra-Plat
The Extra-Plat has been one of the clearest expressions of Daniel Roth’s revived direction under La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. After the brand returned with a focus on the signature ellipsocurvex case and refined finishing, the Extra-Plat offered a simpler alternative to the Tourbillon: a hand-wound, two-hand dress watch with a thin profile.
This platinum version follows the earlier yellow gold Souscription model and the rose gold edition. Rather than changing the core design, it introduces a different material and dial treatment. The result is more subdued than the warmer gold models, with a monochrome palette built around platinum, anthracite, silver and black.
Platinum case, familiar proportions
The case retains Daniel Roth’s distinctive double-ellipse form, often described as ellipsocurvex. It measures 38.6mm in length, 35.5mm in width and 7.7mm thick. The case is made from polished 950 platinum and is fitted with sapphire crystals on the front and back.
Water resistance is rated to 30 metres. The watch is worn on a light-tan leather strap with a 20mm lug width, curved spring bars and a platinum pin buckle.
Anthracite guilloché dial
The dial is made from gold and uses an anthracite pinstripe guilloché pattern, known in French as guilloché en ligne. This style has historical relevance for Daniel Roth and is now executed in-house at La Fabrique du Temps.
The hour chapter ring is also gold, finished in silver to visually align with the platinum case. It features a circular brushed surface, filet sauté guilloché border and black Roman numerals and inscriptions. The hours and minutes are indicated by gold hands with black coating. There is no seconds display, reinforcing the watch’s pared-back character.
Hand-wound DR002 movement
Visible through the sapphire back is the calibre DR002, a manual-winding movement developed by Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. It measures 31mm by 28mm and is 3.1mm thick.
The movement has a 65-hour power reserve, runs at 4Hz and uses a free-sprung balance. It is made from 143 components and has 21 jewels.
Its finishing follows traditional high-end watchmaking codes. Details include Geneva stripes, hand-polished bevels, internal angles, polished countersinks, mirror-polished steel parts, circular-brushed wheels with bevelled spokes and a circular-grained mainplate.
