BYD is preparing to move deeper into the rarefied end of the luxury sedan market with the Yangwang Altior.
Teased as a flagship model for the brand, the Altior is being positioned against established luxury benchmarks such as the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Its public debut is scheduled for Dubai on November 5, where BYD is expected to reveal more about how far upmarket Yangwang intends to go.

At a glance
- BYD has teased the Yangwang Altior, a flagship luxury sedan previously known by the codename HU.
- The Altior is expected to measure around 5,500 mm long with a 3,350 mm wheelbase, giving it limousine-like proportions.
- It will debut publicly in Dubai on November 5, with pricing expected around 2 million yuan, though final details are not yet confirmed.
A new name for BYD’s highest sedan ambitions
The Altior name was confirmed by Hu Xiaoqing, general manager of Yangwang’s sales division.
Derived from Latin and meaning “higher”, it’s a pointed choice for a car that sits at the top of BYD’s sedan plans.
The model had previously been known by its internal codename HU, but the production-facing name gives the project a more formal identity ahead of its debut.

For BYD, the Altior is more than another premium saloon.
It signals an intent to use Yangwang as a serious luxury sub-brand, rather than simply a technology showcase.
Limousine proportions aimed at rear-seat luxury
The most telling early detail is size.
The Altior is expected to measure around 5,500 mm in length, with a substantial 3,350 mm wheelbase.
Those figures would make it roughly 100 mm longer than the standard Rolls-Royce Ghost, placing the emphasis firmly on presence and rear-seat space.
That matters because this segment is defined as much by passenger experience as driver engagement.
Large luxury sedans live or die by cabin space, refinement, and the ability to feel imposing without appearing overdone.
Dubai will frame the Altior’s global luxury message
BYD’s choice of Dubai for the public debut is notable.
The city is one of the world’s most visible markets for high-end cars, and it gives the Altior a stage surrounded by the kind of luxury buyers and established nameplates it wants to challenge.
What remains unknown is just as important as what has been teased.
BYD has not yet confirmed the Altior’s final pricing, powertrain, battery technology, or full specification.
An expected price of around 2 million yuan, or approximately $300,000, would place it far above mainstream executive sedans and firmly into ultra-luxury territory.
