BMW Alpina’s next flagship sedan is moving from promise to proof, even if it’s still hiding under camouflage.
The upcoming V8-powered four-door has been shown undergoing high-speed testing at Italy’s Nardò Technical Centre, where it was pushed beyond 300 km/h on the facility’s circular track.
For a luxury sedan based on the facelifted BMW 7 Series, that’s a pointed statement of intent.

At a glance
- BMW Alpina has shown its upcoming V8 flagship sedan exceeding 300 km/h during testing at Nardò.
- The prototype features revised engine management, throttle mapping, transmission calibration and suspension tuning.
- BMW has confirmed a V8 for the production model, while final output and top speed remain undisclosed.
A camouflaged 7 Series with a high-speed brief
The prototype is based on the facelifted 7 Series, positioning it squarely in the world of large, executive luxury sedans rather than stripped-back performance machinery.
That makes the Nardò run more interesting, because Alpina’s traditional territory has always been speed delivered with discretion, not theatrical aggression.
The car was tested on Nardò’s 7.8-mile circular track, a facility built for the kind of sustained high-speed running that exposes weaknesses in cooling, calibration, aero balance and tyre behaviour.
BMW Alpina hasn’t disclosed the production car’s final top speed, but the prototype running beyond 300 km/h suggests the development target sits well above everyday autobahn pace.
The V8 numbers are still being held back
BMW has confirmed that the first production model will use a V8, though final performance figures remain under wraps.
One intriguing detail appeared inside the test car, where the windscreen display briefly showed 439 kW and 784 Nm.
That converts to around 589 hp and 578 lb-ft, but those figures haven’t been confirmed for the production model.
For now, the more important confirmed work is in the calibration.
Alpina has revised the engine management, throttle mapping and transmission calibration, which points to a car being developed for smooth, sustained force rather than a single headline sprint figure.
Stability, comfort and the Alpina balance
The chassis work appears just as central as the powertrain.
The suspension has been tuned to balance high-speed stability with ride comfort, which is the fine line any proper Alpina sedan has to walk.
The prototype also runs 20-inch multi-spoke wheels and specially developed Pirelli P Zero tyres, a combination that will matter at the speeds being tested here.
Four oval exhaust outlets sit at the rear, adding a familiar performance cue without changing the car’s underlying brief as a luxury four-door.
It’s an approach that should appeal to buyers who want serious pace without moving into a louder, more extroverted performance-sedan character.
