BMW’s electric SUV line-up is about to get a sleeker new member in Australia.
The iX4 is scheduled to arrive locally between January and March 2027, bringing coupe-style proportions to the brand’s newest EV architecture and a launch range made entirely of dual-motor all-wheel-drive models.
It also lands in a part of the market where range, performance and badge strength all matter, with pricing set to start at $103,900 before on-road costs.

At a glance
- BMW will launch the iX4 in Australia in the first quarter of 2027, priced from $103,900 before on-road costs.
- The initial range will be dual-motor all-wheel drive only, with the iX4 40 xDrive and iX4 50 xDrive confirmed.
- A higher-performance iX4 M60 xDrive will join the Australian line-up later in 2027.
A coupe-SUV shape for BMW’s latest EV platform
The iX4 is the first coupe-style model to use BMW’s latest electric architecture, giving the brand a more design-led alternative to its conventional electric SUV offerings.
That positioning matters because BMW has long used the X4 formula to draw buyers who want SUV practicality without the upright, boxier look of a traditional family crossover.
In electric form, the iX4 should appeal to drivers who want a premium EV with a sportier stance, but don’t want to step into a full M model from day one.

Dual-motor xDrive will be standard at launch
Australia will initially receive the iX4 exclusively with dual-motor all-wheel drive.
The entry point will be the iX4 40 xDrive, priced from $103,900 before on-road costs.
It produces 369 hp and 520 Nm of torque, with BMW quoting a 0-62 mph time of 5.6 seconds.

The 40 xDrive also carries a claimed WLTP range of 396 miles, equal to about 637 km.
Above it sits the iX4 50 xDrive, which raises output to 463 hp and 645 Nm.
That model cuts the 0-62 mph run to 4.9 seconds and is priced from $119,900 before on-road costs.

The 50 xDrive brings the bigger battery
The iX4 50 xDrive uses a 108.7kWh NMC battery, giving it a claimed range of up to 514 miles, or roughly 827 km, on the WLTP cycle.
That figure makes the 50 xDrive the more compelling choice for buyers who regularly cover longer distances, not just those chasing the extra performance.
BMW will also expand the Australian range later in 2027 with an iX4 M60 xDrive flagship.

Details for that variant haven’t been confirmed locally, but its placement at the top of the line-up points to a more performance-focused interpretation of the iX4 package.
