Baume & Mercier’s Clifton has always occupied the more restrained, classically dressed corner of the brand’s catalogue.
Its latest turn is a cooler one, with two limited-edition steel models built around an ice-blue guilloché-style dial and the collection’s recently sharpened case language.
One keeps things clean with a 39mm automatic date configuration, while the other brings a perpetual calendar into a notably compact 40mm stainless-steel case.

The Clifton’s cooler classical turn
The Clifton line was introduced in 2012 as Baume & Mercier’s nod to mid-century dress-watch design, and it gained a stronger mechanical identity with the arrival of the Baumatic movement in 2018.
The collection’s 2025 redesign gave it more contemporary proportions, elongated trapezoidal indexes, alpha hands and a three-row steel bracelet.
These two ice-blue editions build directly on that cleaner architecture rather than trying to reinvent the Clifton outright.

The shared dial treatment is the obvious draw, using a stamped guilloché-inspired pattern rather than traditional hand engine-turning.
It gives both watches a brighter, more modern personality while preserving the Clifton’s conservative case profile and formal proportions.
A 39mm Baumatic with everyday polish
The simpler of the pair is the Clifton Baumatic 39mm, cased in stainless steel and measuring 11.22mm thick.

Its case combines polished and satin-finished surfaces, with a domed sapphire crystal treated with anti-reflective coating on both sides.
The semi-recessed crown sits low against the rounded case, helping the watch keep a relatively smooth silhouette on the wrist.
On the dial, the ice-blue stamped texture is paired with a black central crosshair, a snailed minutes track, rhodium-plated trapezoidal markers and an Arabic numeral at 12 o’clock.

The date sits at 6 o’clock in a tone-on-tone window, a small but useful choice that keeps the dial from feeling interrupted.
Inside is the automatic Baumatic BM13-1975 A calibre, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivering a five-day, 120-hour power reserve.
The movement is visible through a four-screw sapphire caseback, with circular-grained bridges, a sandblasted and snailed plate, and an openworked rotor decorated with Côtes de Genève.

The watch is fitted to an integrated three-row stainless-steel bracelet with an interchangeable-bar system, allowing the bracelet to be removed without tools.
The compact steel perpetual calendar
The Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar 40mm is the more technically ambitious release and the more interesting one for collectors who prefer complications without precious-metal formality.
At 40mm wide and 12.9mm thick, the stainless-steel case is smaller than the earlier 42mm precious-metal Clifton perpetual calendars.

The dial keeps the same ice-blue guilloché-style surface but adds snailed sub-dials for the day, date, month and leap-year cycle.
Arabic numerals at 2, 4, 8 and 10 o’clock work with elongated rhodium-plated trapezoidal markers, preserving a clear family resemblance to the 39mm model.
Small colour accents do useful work here rather than simply adding decoration.

The leap-year indication uses a red pointer and red “4”, the date sub-dial marks “31” in red, and the moon-phase display at 6 o’clock uses a blue disc with a polished rhodium moon.
The movement is the automatic Baumatic BM13-1975 AC2, which pairs the Baumatic base calibre with a Dubois-Dépraz perpetual-calendar module.
It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and maintains the same 120-hour power reserve as the time-and-date model.

Through the sapphire caseback, the movement shows circular-grained bridges, a sandblasted and snailed plate, and a gilded openworked rotor finished with Côtes de Genève and Baume & Mercier engravings.
The perpetual calendar is worn on a blue square-scale alligator strap with tone-on-tone stitching and an interchangeable system, secured by a stainless-steel pin buckle.

Who these Clifton models speak to
The 39mm Baumatic is the more versatile watch, especially for someone who wants the Clifton’s formal restraint with a fresher dial and a long power reserve.

The perpetual calendar is a different proposition, offering a high-complication Clifton in steel, with compact sizing and a dial that feels dressy without being overly traditional.
Together, the pair gives the collection a timely lift without abandoning the design codes that made the Clifton one of Baume & Mercier’s most approachable modern lines.
