The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Self-Winding Ultra-Thin is one of the quietest statements from Watches & Wonders 2026: a platinum Overseas with only hours and minutes on display, yet a movement that took serious engineering to make possible.
At first glance, it reads as a restrained two-hand sports watch with a fashionable salmon dial.
Look closer, and the story is really about the Calibre 2550, an automatic ultra-thin manufacture movement measuring just 2.4mm high while still offering an 80-hour power reserve.
A Salmon Dial That Changes the Overseas Mood
The Overseas collection is strongly associated with blue dials, but this Self-Winding Ultra-Thin shifts the character of the watch with a salmon-lacquered dial and a sunburst finish.
The color works especially well against the cool tone of platinum, giving the watch warmth without pushing it into ornament.
Vacheron Constantin keeps the display deliberately spare, using 18-carat white gold baton hands and matching hour markers treated with white Super-LumiNova that glows blue in low light.
A velvet-finished minute track on the flange adds texture at the edge of the dial, while the lack of a seconds hand or date window keeps the whole composition clean.
Platinum Case, Familiar Overseas Geometry
The case measures 39.5mm across, which is a smart size for an Overseas aimed less at visual mass and more at proportion.
Its 7.35mm thickness is the more important number, placing this automatic watch in unusually slim territory for a contemporary integrated-bracelet design.
The usual Overseas codes remain intact, including the Maltese cross-inspired bezel, the mix of brushed and polished surfaces, and the architectural bracelet links with faceted edges.
That bracelet is also platinum, which means the watch should have a noticeably dense wrist presence despite its thin profile.
Calibre 2550 Is the Real Event
The Calibre 2550 is the reason this watch is more than a dial variation.
Vacheron Constantin spent seven years developing the movement, and the result is an automatic calibre that combines a micro-rotor, double barrel architecture and long autonomy in a thickness of only 2.4mm.
The micro-rotor is made from 950 platinum and winds in both directions, preserving the thinness that a conventional full rotor would compromise.
The twin barrels are stacked vertically on a shared post, allowing the construction to reduce height while delivering stable torque over the power reserve.
That kind of mechanical density is easy to miss because the dial is so minimal, but it is exactly what makes the watch interesting.
Three Wearing Options in the Box
Like other modern Overseas models, this Ultra-Thin uses Vacheron Constantin’s interchangeable system, so the owner can move between the platinum bracelet, a beige rubber strap and a dark beige alligator strap without tools.
All three are included, which gives the watch more range than its precious-metal construction might suggest.
On the bracelet, it is the full platinum integrated-sports watch; on rubber, it becomes more relaxed and contemporary; on alligator, it moves closer to a slim dress watch with athletic lines.
The Overseas Self-Winding Ultra-Thin will appeal to collectors who like the idea of a simple daily display but still want the mechanical substance of high-end watchmaking underneath.
It is not the most complicated Overseas, nor the loudest, but its combination of platinum, a 7.35mm case and the Calibre 2550 makes it one of the most technically compelling versions of the collection.
