TAG Heuer Gives the Carrera Glassbox a Team Ikuzawa Racing Treatment

TAG Heuer’s Carrera has always made the most sense when it feels close to the timing booth, the pit wall and the mechanics’ bench.

The new Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa leans directly into that world, using the modern 39mm Glassbox case as a canvas for one of Japanese racing’s most recognisable visual identities.

Limited to 150 pieces, it brings together TAG Heuer’s current chronograph architecture, Team Ikuzawa’s red-and-white codes and a dial inspired by Roadmaster stopwatches from the 1970s and 1980s.

A Carrera Glassbox built around Japanese racing memory

Team Ikuzawa was founded by Tetsu Ikuzawa, whose racing career touched the Japanese Grand Prix, Formula 3, Formula 2, Le Mans and Porsche factory drives.

The team’s red-and-white colours have since travelled beyond the circuit, with Mai Ikuzawa turning that heritage into a broader design and cultural language spanning motorsport, fashion and luxury collaborations.

This new Carrera translates that identity into a more compact and contemporary format than the earlier 42mm Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa.

The foundation is TAG Heuer’s 39mm Carrera Glassbox Chronograph, a design that revived some of the original Carrera’s clarity while adding a domed sapphire crystal that flows over the sloping flange in place of a conventional bezel.

The stainless steel case keeps its mix of brushed and polished surfaces, with vintage-style pump pushers and a screw-down crown marked by a red lacquered ring.

A sapphire caseback carries Team Ikuzawa and Bamford Watch Department engravings, along with the individual limited-edition number.

Roadmaster stopwatch cues on the dial

The dial is where the watch separates itself most clearly from the standard Glassbox Carrera.

TAG Heuer has used a white Clou de Paris texture with printed indices, giving the watch a more instrumental, stopwatch-like look than the applied markers found on regular production models.

Red is used with intent rather than restraint.

It appears on the logos, the lacquered hour and minute hands, the central chronograph seconds hand and the angled date wheel, where every numeral is printed in Team Ikuzawa’s signature colour.

The layout removes the running seconds display seen on many Carrera chronographs, opening space above the six o’clock date window for the Team Ikuzawa signature.

The remaining counters are dedicated to chronograph timing, with a 30-minute register at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour register at 9 o’clock.

There is no tachymetre scale, which gives the dial a cleaner timing-instrument character and allows the team graphics to sit more prominently.

The TH20-10 movement and three ways to wear it

Inside is TAG Heuer’s manufacture calibre TH20-10, an automatic chronograph movement with a column wheel, vertical clutch and bi-directional winding.

The power reserve is 80 hours, making it practical for rotation rather than just weekend use.

The watch is delivered on TAG Heuer’s seven-row stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp.

Two additional straps are also included, which is a smart move for a watch so driven by colour and motorsport references.

One is a perforated white leather strap with red stitching, while the other is a white textile strap with red stripes that directly echoes Team Ikuzawa’s racing livery.

The presentation continues the garage theme, with packaging styled like a mechanics’ toolbox, plus a travel pouch and Team Ikuzawa charms.

The Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa works because it doesn’t treat racing heritage as decoration alone.

It uses a strong modern Carrera platform, edits the dial with purpose and gives Team Ikuzawa’s visual language enough space to feel integral rather than applied after the fact.
