Studio Underd0g Refines the 02Series With Slimmer Gen2 Field Watches

Studio Underd0g’s 02Series has always been the brand’s more restrained counterpoint to its colourful chronographs, though restraint is relative in the Underd0g world.

For its second generation, the British watchmaker has sharpened the formula rather than reinventing it, with a slimmer case, cleaner dial architecture and a manually wound Sellita movement offering a much longer power reserve.

The new Nightshade and Red L0lly dials will draw the first look, but the real story is how much more resolved the watch has become on the wrist.

A slimmer field watch with sharper proportions

The 02Series Gen2 stays faithful to the compact footprint that made the first version feel closer to a vintage field watch than a modern oversized tool watch.

The stainless steel case measures 37.5mm across and 46mm from lug to lug, dimensions that should suit a wide range of wrists without losing the watch’s utilitarian character.

The key ergonomic change is thickness, now trimmed to 11.5mm overall, compared with 12mm for the earlier model.

Without the domed sapphire crystal, the case itself measures 9.4mm, a useful distinction because the crystal remains part of the 02Series’ visual identity.

Studio Underd0g achieved the reduction by revisiting the dial and hand construction, allowing the crystal to sit closer to the display.

Tighter assembly tolerances from the brand’s in-house workshop, The D0ghouse, also play a part in the neater profile.

The screw-down caseback keeps the Jellyfish motif, a playful nod to the watch’s 100m water resistance, now set against a matte background.

Layered sapphire dials in four colours

The 02Series remains inspired by mid-century British military field watches, including the spirit of the Dirty Dozen, but it’s hardly a strict historical exercise.

Its most distinctive feature is the multi-layer dial, which uses a 1mm-thick tinted sapphire upper layer suspended above a metallic base.

A sunburst pattern etched into the lower layer creates changing reflections through the coloured sapphire, giving the watch more depth than a conventional printed field-watch dial.

The technique links back to Studio Underd0g’s Manhattan collaboration with Fears, where the brand first explored this way of using tinted sapphire as part of the dial composition.

For Gen2, the returning Pink Lem0nade and Steffany Blue are joined by Nightshade, a deep purple, and Red L0lly, a cherry-red option with the brand’s usual wink in the name.

Full Mo0n and Midnight leave the range as the new colours arrive.

The layout has also been cleaned up, with the minute track moved slightly inward for better legibility beneath the curved crystal.

The handset is newly tooled, while the printed text has been reduced and rebalanced to keep the dial from feeling too busy.

Luminous Arabic hour markers preserve the practical night-time readability expected from a field watch, even when the colour palette is anything but conventional.

A manual Sellita movement with a longer weekend reserve

The biggest mechanical upgrade is the switch to the Sellita SW200-2 M Power+, used here as a manually wound movement in keeping with the field-watch brief.

It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and brings the power reserve up to 63 hours, a clear improvement over the previous 42-hour Sellita SW210-1.

Hacking seconds remain, so the watch can be set precisely when timing matters.

That longer reserve gives the 02Series Gen2 a more practical rhythm for everyday ownership, particularly for collectors who rotate watches rather than wearing one piece continuously.

Straps, pricing and availability

Each Gen2 colour is paired with a new leather strap made by The Strap Tailor.

The straps measure 18mm at the lugs, taper to 16mm and use quick-release spring bars, with a stainless steel pin buckle completing the setup.
