Panerai anniversary watches can easily lean on scale and nostalgia, but the Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni PAM01734 is interesting because its most telling detail is almost hidden.
Created for the 100th anniversary of Panerai’s Florence boutique on Piazza San Giovanni, the platinum-cased limited edition revisits the military roots of the Luminor without turning the dial into a commemorative billboard.
It’s unmistakably modern Panerai, yet the watch is tied closely to the 6152/1 lineage and to a rare Firenze-dial prototype from the 1960s.

At a glance
- Panerai has released the Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni PAM01734 as a 100-piece limited edition for the Florence boutique’s centenary.
- The 44 mm Platinumtech watch uses a hand-wound P.5000 calibre with an eight-day power reserve and a grooved crown-protecting bridge.
- The PAM01734 is priced at £47,200 RRP and sits above the related steel PAM01794 in both material and rarity.
A Florence anniversary with real Luminor references
The PAM01734 belongs to a two-watch Firenze release, joined by the stainless steel Luminor Firenze 8 Giorni PAM01794.
Both watches mark a century of Panerai’s Florence premises, historically known as Orologeria Svizzera, rather than a specific Luminor anniversary.
That distinction matters, because the watch doesn’t just borrow the silhouette of an old naval instrument.

Its cushion case, crown bridge, sandwich dial and eight-day movement all point toward the period when Panerai watches were evolving from Rolex-supplied military cases into something recognisably Florentine.
The reference point is the Panerai 6152/1, a mid-century design associated with Italian naval use and eventually fitted with Panerai’s now-defining crown-protecting bridge.
Panerai later used Angelus SF 240 eight-day movements in some 6152/1 watches, a practical choice that reduced the need to wind and reset the watch.

That thinking is carried into the PAM01734 through Panerai’s P.5000 calibre, which delivers the same weekly-wind concept in a modern in-house movement.
The grooved crown bridge is the quiet signature
The PAM01734’s most distinctive feature is the parallel grooving on the inner faces of the crown-protecting bridge.
Panerai says this is the first production model to adopt the grooved bridge detail from the historic Firenze prototype.

The idea is functional rather than decorative, with the grooves linked to easier handling of the crown.
On a Luminor, that’s not a minor flourish.
The crown bridge is the brand’s most recognisable design element, so any alteration to it has to be judged carefully.

Here, the change is subtle enough to preserve the shape but specific enough to give the PAM01734 a genuine point of separation from regular-production Luminor models.
The lever end is also more prominent, giving the bridge a slightly more considered profile.
Green, platinum and a restrained Firenze dial
The PAM01734 uses a 44 mm Platinumtech case, reducing the scale from the 47 mm proportions associated with vintage Luminor references while keeping the broad, squared-off presence intact.

The dial is forest green with a circular-brushed finish and a sandwich construction.
Rather than printing a loud anniversary message, Panerai has engraved “Panerai Firenze” at 12 o’clock, allowing the inscription to appear and disappear as the light moves across the surface.
Gold-effect pencil hands give the platinum model a warmer character than the darker, more instrument-like steel PAM01794.

Green Super-LumiNova handles the luminous work, without resorting to an artificially aged tone.
A domed sapphire crystal nods to the profile of historic acrylic crystals, while the exhibition caseback shows the P.5000 movement inside.
The P.5000 keeps the focus on endurance
The P.5000 is a hand-wound calibre with two barrels and an eight-day power reserve.

It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour, or 3 Hz, with 21 jewels, Incabloc shock protection and a balance bridge anchored at both ends.
At 4.5 mm thick, it is relatively slim for a movement built around such a long reserve.
The movement is more pragmatic than decorative, which suits a watch derived from naval instruments.

It also gives the PAM01734 a direct conceptual link to Panerai’s Angelus-powered history, where fewer crown operations meant fewer chances to compromise the seals.

The PAM01734 is clearly the collector-facing watch of the Firenze pair, not simply because it’s platinum, but because it carries the more specific historical detail.
For Panerai devotees, the appeal is in the way it connects Florence, the 6152/1 story, the eight-day movement tradition and the crown bridge into a single, carefully restrained Luminor.
