Oris doesn’t need to reinvent the Big Crown Pointer Date to make it feel different.
The watch has been part of the brand’s identity since 1938, when its oversized crown and central pointer-date display were designed with aviators in mind.
The new Big Crown Pointer Date Oxblood keeps that familiar architecture, but the deep red dial and stainless steel bracelet give it a stronger, more contemporary presence.

A classic Oris pilot’s design with sharper colour
Founded in 1904 in Hölstein, Switzerland, Oris has built much of its modern character around mechanical watches that are practical, legible and independent in spirit.
The Big Crown Pointer Date is a neat expression of that approach because its two defining traits are functional rather than decorative.
The large crown was originally conceived to be easier to operate while wearing flight gloves, while the date is shown by a fourth central hand instead of a conventional aperture.

Nearly nine decades later, those elements still carry the design.
On this version, the oxblood red dial does most of the work visually, adding warmth and depth without disturbing the watch’s established layout.
Case, bracelet and the Big Crown silhouette
The watch is housed in a 40 mm multi-piece case made from 316L stainless steel.

Its case thickness is 12 mm, while the lug-to-lug measurement is 47.50 mm, giving it proportions that sit in a versatile part of the modern sports-classic space.
The case has flowing lines, curved lugs and a fluted bezel framing a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inner surface.
The oversized stainless steel crown is screw-down and engraved with the Oris logo, with pronounced fluting for grip when winding or setting the watch.

Water resistance is rated to 5 bar.
The H-link stainless steel bracelet changes the character of the Big Crown Pointer Date compared with traditional leather-strap versions.
Its links alternate brushed and polished surfaces, and it’s secured by an Oris-developed triple folding clasp with double safety push-buttons.

The oxblood dial and central pointer date
The dial is the defining feature of this release.
Its deep oxblood tone gives the watch a richer visual identity while preserving the Big Crown Pointer Date’s familiar balance of Arabic numerals, central hands and peripheral date scale.
Applied Arabic numerals stand proud of the dial surface, adding depth to a display that remains easy to read.

Super-LumiNova is used on the central hour and minute hands, the raised Arabic numerals and the small triangular hour markers around the outer track.
The date is indicated by a central hand with a red tip, which points to the date scale running around the dial’s outer edge.
It’s a charmingly analogue solution, and it makes better use of the full dial circumference than a small date window would.

Calibre 754 and the red rotor view
Inside is the Oris Calibre 754, an automatic mechanical movement based on the Sellita SW200-1 architecture.
It measures 25.60 mm in diameter, runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and uses 26 jewels.
The stated power reserve is approximately 41 hours.

The movement drives central hours, minutes and seconds, along with the pointer-date display.
It also includes an instantaneous date change, date corrector, fine timing adjustment and stop-second function for precise time-setting.
Through the screw-secured stainless steel caseback, a mineral glass window reveals the movement and its red oscillating weight.

That red rotor is a small but effective detail, tying the movement view back to the dial’s stronger colour story.

The Big Crown Pointer Date Oxblood works because it doesn’t overcomplicate a design that already has a clear identity.
For anyone drawn to Oris’s practical watchmaking language but wanting something more expressive than a conventional dial colour, this is one of the more characterful recent takes on the line.
