Nivada Grenchen Marks 100 Years With the F77 MKII Stone Dial Collection

Nivada Grenchen’s centenary year is turning into a strong moment for the F77, the brand’s compact integrated-bracelet sports watch with a distinctly 1970s silhouette.

The latest F77 MKII 100 Years collection adds a run of natural stone dials and, more importantly for daily wear, a new automatic movement with a longer power reserve.

It’s still recognisably the F77, but the upgrades make this version feel more mature, slimmer and better aligned with what collectors expect from a modern mechanical watch in this price range.

The F77 has become one of the key pillars of modern Nivada Grenchen, sitting alongside the Antarctic and Chronomaster lines as a heritage-led watch that doesn’t feel trapped in nostalgia.

Its appeal is easy to understand, especially for collectors who like integrated sports watches but prefer something more compact than the current market norm.

The new F77 MKII keeps the stainless-steel case at 38mm, with a 46.2mm lug-to-lug measurement and the familiar integrated bracelet architecture.

The shape remains crisp, with a mix of vertical brushing and polished accents that suits the angular case and octagonal bezel.

The important dimensional change is thickness.

Thanks to the new movement, the watch now measures 11.5mm thick including the double-domed sapphire crystal, down from 12.2mm on the previous version.

That reduction may sound small on paper, but on an integrated-bracelet watch it can make a noticeable difference in how cleanly the case sits on the wrist.

Water resistance remains 100 metres, keeping the F77 comfortably in everyday sports-watch territory rather than turning it into a purely decorative anniversary piece.

Stone dials give the collection its character

The headline change is the dial selection, with six natural stone variants joining the regular F77 MKII range.

Azurite, Labradorite, Jade, Black Opal, Shungite Black and Smoky Quartz make up the permanent collection, each bringing its own colour, texture and mineral patterning.

Azurite leans into intense blue formations with an abstract, almost painterly surface.

Labradorite offers deeper blue tones and iridescent flashes that shift as the dial catches light.

Jade gives the watch a richer green presence, with a smoother organic texture than the more dramatic mineral options.

Black Opal is likely to be the most visually theatrical of the group, with blue, green, red and violet flashes emerging from a dark base depending on viewing angle.

Shungite Black is the quieter option, using a deep matte appearance and subtle texture for a more restrained look.

Smoky Quartz moves in a warmer direction, with brown-grey tones that should suit collectors looking for a less conventional neutral dial.

There is also an Ice Agate version created for the centenary edition, limited to 100 pieces.

Its pale blue-and-white layered appearance gives it a cooler, softer personality than the main six references.

Functionally, the dial layout stays simple.

The F77 MKII remains a time-only watch with hours, minutes and central seconds, using openworked baton hands, faceted applied indices and small Super-LumiNova dots around the outer edge.

The La Joux-Perret G101 is the meaningful upgrade

The movement change gives this release more substance than a dial refresh.

Nivada Grenchen has moved from the Soprod P024 used in the earlier F77 MKII to the La Joux-Perret G101 automatic calibre.

The new movement brings a 68-hour power reserve, a significant improvement over the 42 hours offered previously.

That makes the watch more practical if it’s taken off for a weekend and picked up again without needing to be reset.

The G101 runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and uses 24 jewels, with a tungsten rotor for unidirectional winding and a KIF anti-shock system.

It’s also a true no-date evolution of the G100, which suits the F77’s clean dial design and avoids an unused date position in the crown sequence.

For the first time in this configuration, the movement is visible through a sapphire exhibition caseback.

The back also carries an anniversary engraving marking Nivada Grenchen’s 100-year milestone.

Bracelet, straps and positioning

The integrated stainless-steel bracelet remains central to the F77’s identity.

It includes a clasp with tool-free micro-adjustment, a useful feature on a sports watch that’s likely to be worn through changing temperatures and long days.

Nivada Grenchen is also offering the watch on a canvas Velcro strap or a black rubber strap.

Those options give the same compact case a more casual expression and help keep the entry price lower.

Pricing is set at EUR 1,660 on a strap and EUR 1,870 on the bracelet.

For a mechanical integrated sports watch with stone dials, 100 metres of water resistance and a 68-hour La Joux-Perret movement, the positioning is clearly aimed at collectors who want character without moving into five-figure territory.
