Mercedes-AMG’s first dedicated high-performance electric SUV is starting to look less like a distant project and more like a production car.
The latest prototype sightings show the model, known by the internal codename X591, with a cleaner outline and far less disguise than before.
That matters because this isn’t simply an electric version of an existing Mercedes SUV, but a key AMG model built around the brand’s dedicated EV performance architecture.

That element hints at serious aerodynamic work around the front fenders, although Mercedes-AMG hasn’t detailed the function of the feature.

AMG.EA gives the SUV its own electric foundation
The important engineering story sits beneath the bodywork.
The electric SUV will ride on Mercedes-AMG’s AMG.EA platform, a dedicated performance EV architecture with 800-volt technology.
That same foundation is also being used for the electric AMG GT 4-Door, placing the SUV within AMG’s next generation of battery-electric performance cars rather than its current EQ-branded family.

Mercedes-AMG hasn’t confirmed the production name or powertrain figures for the X591.
There is speculation that it may share technology with the AMG GT 4-Door EV, which has been linked with outputs as high as 1,153 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of torque.
Until AMG releases final numbers, the safer takeaway is that this SUV is being positioned as a serious performance model, not merely a luxury EV with sportier styling.

Timing and market positioning
A world debut in Stuttgart has been tipped for October 17.
Customer deliveries are expected to begin in early 2027, which would place the model at the front end of AMG’s next electric product cycle.
Its closest audience will likely be buyers who want full-size electric SUV usability without giving up AMG’s traditional emphasis on acceleration, chassis character and visual presence.
