Mercedes-AMG is broadening the appeal of its electric GT 4-Door Coupe with a new GT 53 variant.
It sits below the more extreme GT 63, keeping the big-battery, high-voltage foundations while trimming the drivetrain from three motors to two.
The result is still firmly in AMG territory, just with a different balance of pace, range and positioning.

Mercedes-AMG quotes 0–62 mph in 3.5 seconds, compared with 2.4 seconds for the GT 63.
Top speed is electronically limited to 143 mph as standard, rising to 155 mph when specified with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.
More range from familiar hardware
Under the skin, the GT 53 keeps the same 800-volt electrical architecture and 106 kWh battery used elsewhere in the line.
The advantage comes from having one fewer motor to feed, which helps stretch the claimed range to 503 miles.
That figure gives the GT 53 a clearer grand touring brief than the more aggressive GT 63.
It should appeal to drivers who want AMG’s electric performance character without chasing the quickest possible acceleration number.
A different kind of artificial character
Mercedes-AMG has also given the GT 53 its own simulated drivetrain personality.
Where the GT 63 leans into a V8-inspired character, the GT 53 adopts artificial engine and gearbox traits closer to a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six.
That choice is telling.
Rather than making every electric AMG feel like the same theatre turned up to different volumes, the GT 53 gets a distinct tone that better suits its slightly calmer remit.

For buyers less concerned with headline bragging rights and more interested in long-range speed with everyday usability, this may be the more compelling version.
