Mercedes-AMG’s next performance coupe and the refreshed GLC have appeared together in Los Angeles, giving an early look at two important 2027 arrivals from Stuttgart.
The CLE 63 is the more performance-focused story here, but the GLC facelift is equally telling for what it suggests about Mercedes’ next design language across its high-volume luxury SUV line.
At a glance
- Camouflaged prototypes of the 2027 Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 and 2027 GLC facelift have been seen testing together in Los Angeles.
- The CLE 63 shows a more aggressive front bumper, vertical-slat grille and updated headlights, while the GLC reveals new DRL signatures.
- Both models are expected to use a flat-plane-crank 4.0-litre V8, with output potentially aligned with the latest S-Class application.
The CLE 63 moves closer to production form
The black Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 prototype remains heavily disguised at the front, but the underlying shape is becoming easier to read.

The bumper appears sportier than the regular CLE’s, with the sort of larger openings and sharper surfacing expected from a full AMG model.
Up front, the grille adopts vertical slats, a familiar AMG cue that immediately separates the car from lesser CLE variants.
The headlight graphics have also changed, with revised LED daytime running lights giving the nose a more technical expression even through the camouflage.

A cabriolet version of the 2027 Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 has also been seen previously, which points to Mercedes-AMG preparing both fixed-roof and open-top versions of its next high-performance CLE flagship.
GLC facelift points to a new lighting signature
The GLC facelift prototype is more comprehensively covered, but its lighting is difficult to hide.
The headlights show LED daytime running lights running along the top edge, while a three-pointed star motif inside the lamp also functions as part of the DRL signature.

That detail matters because Mercedes has been leaning harder into illuminated brand graphics, and the GLC is a major volume product where such updates tend to influence the wider showroom.
The front bumper also appears to have been revised, though the disguise makes its final surfacing harder to judge.
Even in prototype form, the facelift looks aimed at sharpening the GLC rather than radically changing its proportions.

A V8 return would be the defining AMG story
The strongest technical thread around both vehicles is the expected use of a new flat-plane-crank 4.0-litre V8.
That engine is already associated with the latest S-Class, where it produces 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque.
If Mercedes-AMG applies that powertrain philosophy to the CLE 63, it would give the coupe a clearer emotional and mechanical identity at the top of the range.
For buyers who still associate AMG with characterful combustion engines, that detail will likely matter as much as the styling updates.
