Mercedes-AMG has given the CLE 53 Coupe a more assertive specification with the new Edition R.
This isn’t a power upgrade, and it doesn’t need to be. The appeal here is in the stance, the darker detailing and a cabin that moves the coupe further into grand tourer territory without softening its AMG character.

Darker AMG styling with a stronger road presence
The Edition R leans into the CLE 53’s wide, muscular coupe shape rather than trying to reinvent it.
At the front, the bumper is more aggressive and gains extra side flicks that make the car look lower and broader from a head-on view.
At the rear, Mercedes-AMG has added a gloss black finish and a larger lip spoiler, giving the tail a more pronounced performance look.
The standard wheels make way for 20-inch matte black alloys with a machined edge, a detail that adds contrast without drifting into show-car excess.
Red AMG brake calipers sit behind the wheels and bring a deliberate flash of colour to an otherwise darkened exterior treatment.
The Edition R also builds on the AMG Night Package and Night Package II, so the grille is darkened, the badging is finished in black chrome, the mirror caps are high-gloss black and the exhaust finishers are black chrome.
A cabin with more AMG theatre
Inside, the Edition R gets AMG Performance seats trimmed in Nappa leather, which gives the coupe a more serious driving position while preserving the expected Mercedes comfort brief.
The steering wheel has also been revised, with microfibre grips intended to add more tactility where the driver interacts with the car most.
Red seatbelts mirror the exterior brake calipers and bring the colour theme into the cabin in a way that feels distinctly AMG.
The equipment list is also stronger, with a head-up display, Burmester sound system and the latest MBUX infotainment setup included in the package.
The same inline-six performance package
Mercedes-AMG has left the mechanical specification untouched for the Edition R.
The CLE 53 Coupe continues with a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six producing 330 kW, or 442 hp, and 560 Nm of torque.
Power is sent through a nine-speed automatic gearbox to an all-wheel-drive system, giving the coupe the traction and pace expected from a modern AMG daily performance car.
The result is a 0–100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds, quick enough to support the more assertive styling without requiring a change under the bonnet.
