Jaguar’s reset is no longer just a design conversation.
The Type 01, the electric model leading the brand’s new direction, is already pulling in a markedly different audience. Jaguar says four in five prospective customers showing interest in the car have never owned a Jaguar before.
That’s a notable signal for a company deliberately stepping away from the familiar premium-car playbook and trying to reposition itself as a more exclusive luxury marque.

At a glance
- Jaguar says around 80 percent of Type 01 prospects are new to the brand.
- The electric Type 01 represents a sharp shift toward design-led luxury, technology and individuality.
- More than 50,000 registrations of interest have been logged worldwide, though these are not confirmed orders.
A deliberate break from old Jaguar codes
The Type 01 is important because it isn’t trying to reassure everyone who loved Jaguar’s past.
Instead, it signals a more assertive attempt to move the brand into a higher, more individualistic luxury space, where design identity and technology carry as much weight as heritage.
That’s a difficult balancing act for any established carmaker, particularly one with as much emotional history as Jaguar.

The brand’s older image was built around sporting elegance, long-bonnet proportions and a certain British restraint, while the Type 01 is being used to introduce a more radical visual and commercial direction.
New buyers are the real test
For Jaguar, the most interesting number isn’t simply the volume of interest.
It’s who that interest is coming from.

With four in five prospective Type 01 customers said to be first-time Jaguar buyers, the car appears to be doing one of its most important jobs before deliveries even begin.
It’s making people who may never have considered an F-Pace, XE, XF or F-Type pay attention to the badge.
Managing director Rawdon Glover has previously made clear that attracting buyers outside Jaguar’s traditional circle is central to the plan.

The company expects its future audience to skew younger and more affluent, while still leaving space for existing owners who are ready to follow the brand into its electric era.
Interest is strong, but orders will matter more
Jaguar has received more than 50,000 registrations of interest worldwide for the Type 01.
That’s a healthy early figure for a car carrying so much responsibility, but it’s also worth treating it with perspective.

Registering interest online is not the same thing as committing to a high-end electric car, especially one arriving with a fresh design language and a repositioned brand strategy.
The harder test will come when pricing, final specifications and customer deliveries turn curiosity into purchasing decisions.
Still, the early audience mix suggests Jaguar’s reinvention is landing where it needs to land.

What the Type 01 means for Jaguar’s next chapter
The Type 01 is less about preserving Jaguar’s old comfort zone and more about defining a new one.
If the brand can convert this interest into actual buyers, it will have achieved something rare in the luxury-car world by using an electric reset to change not only what it sells, but who it speaks to.
For longtime enthusiasts, that shift may take some getting used to.
For new luxury EV buyers looking for something less predictable, that may be exactly the point.
