Independent watchmaking gets a new name with the arrival of Cleguer Horology, founded by Swiss watchmaking engineer Mathieu Cleguer.
Its first watch, the Inspiration One Souscription, isn’t trying to launch a broad collection. It’s a focused technical statement built around a proprietary escapement, restrained aesthetics and a deliberately intimate collector model.
Priced from CHF 98,500, the first series has already been allocated, with deliveries planned for the second half of 2026.

A debut shaped around chronometry
The Inspiration One is the kind of debut that tells you exactly where a maker’s priorities sit.
Rather than dressing a conventional calibre in an attractive case, Mathieu Cleguer has placed the regulating organ, energy delivery and dial architecture at the centre of the watch’s identity.
The project was developed with designer Lee Yuen-Rapati, and the result has a measured tension between classical handcraft and contemporary mechanical thinking.
There’s no oversized logo fighting for attention on the dial. The brand name is instead engraved inside the case flank, leaving the mechanics to do most of the speaking.
The Innate Escapement reworks a historic idea
The technical heart of the Inspiration One is its proprietary Innate Escapement, developed over five years.
It takes inspiration from the historic natural escapement, a concept admired for its efficiency but limited by its difficulty in self-starting.
Cleguer’s solution uses an indirect tangential impulse delivered through a central lever, combining the dual escape-wheel arrangement associated with the natural escapement with ideas connected to Charles Fasoldt’s escapement.
The aim is improved efficiency and more stable chronometric behaviour, while also allowing a hacking seconds function for more precise time setting.
That practical detail matters, because it shows the watch isn’t merely an academic exercise in escapement design.
A dial that exposes only what matters
The Inspiration One is housed in a 38.5 mm titanium case measuring 12 mm thick, with water resistance rated to 30 metres.
Its dial side is dominated by a layered movement construction that gives the watch its depth.
An off-centred Grand Feu champlevé enamel subdial sits at 2 o’clock for the hours and minutes, while a long central seconds hand crosses the mechanical landscape.
On the left, a snailed barrel incorporates a 36-hour power reserve display.
At the lower part of the watch, a large 12.9 mm balance wheel beats at 18,000 vibrations per hour, or 2.5 Hz.
The architecture steps down through visible levels, from the seconds display to the barrel bridge and then to the mainplate.
Nickel silver components are finished in champagne and rhodium tones, giving the watch warmth without making the design feel ornate for its own sake.
Turn the watch over and the remaining mechanical arrangement comes into view, including the gear train and an oversized ratchet and click system topped by a Maltese Cross stopwork.
That stopwork limits the usable running time to 36 hours, helping keep torque delivery more consistent across the period in which the watch is intended to run.
Subscription production and collector positioning
The first 12 titanium Souscription pieces have already been allocated to collectors.
Deliveries are scheduled for the second half of 2026, placing this firmly in the territory of patient, highly engaged independent watch collecting.
After the inaugural titanium series, the Inspiration One is planned in further batches of 12 across four additional case metals.
A further 20 movements are reserved for bespoke commissions, bringing the total number of Inspiration One watches to 80.
The project has been funded through a subscription model rather than outside investment, allowing Cleguer to maintain creative control while building direct relationships with buyers.
The inaugural deep purple tone chosen for the Souscription series is a personal one for Cleguer, connected to ideas of creativity, depth and refinement.
Three dots beneath the 12 o’clock marker reference his Breton heritage as well as the three key elements on the dial, namely the barrel, the enamel time display and the oversized balance wheel.
