Angelus has a particular talent for making historic chronograph codes feel compact rather than costume-like.
Its new Chronographe Tachymètre continues that thread with a trio of monopusher watches that place a speed-measuring scale around a vintage-leaning two-register dial.
The proportions are restrained, the movement is traditional, and the colour choices give the collection more personality than a straight archival exercise.

At a glance
- Angelus has introduced the Chronographe Tachymètre as a trio of limited-edition monopusher chronographs.
- Each watch uses a 37mm case and the hand-wound A5000 calibre, with a tachymeter scale calibrated to a base of 1,000.
- Production is limited to 15 pieces in yellow gold, 30 pieces in steel with a pink dial, and 50 pieces in steel with a grey and blue dial.
A stopwatch language tuned for speed
The defining change is the scale around the dial.
Angelus has replaced the distance-oriented telemeter format of its recent vintage-style chronograph with a tachymeter, a more natural fit for timing vehicles and calculating average speed over a known distance.
The scale is calibrated to a base of 1,000 and begins at 500 km/h, giving the watch a deliberately automotive flavour without turning it into a modern racing chronograph.

That distinction matters, because the Chronographe Tachymètre still reads like an instrument from the middle decades of the 20th century.
The dial layout is classic and balanced, with a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and small seconds at 9 o’clock.
All three versions use a grained central dial, satin-finished flange and snailed subdials, creating enough surface variation to keep the compact display from feeling flat.

Three dial treatments, one compact case
The case measures 37mm across and 9.25mm thick, which keeps the watch unusually slim and wearable for a mechanical chronograph.
Its curved caseband runs from lug to lug, while the sculpted lugs sweep downward and twist around the sides for a more pronounced vintage silhouette.
A box-shaped sapphire crystal protects the dial, while a sapphire caseback reveals the movement.

The chronograph is operated through a single pusher integrated into the fluted crown at 3 o’clock, handling start, stop and reset from one control.
Angelus offers the watch in 18k yellow gold or stainless steel.
The yellow-gold model pairs a golden dial with dark green-toned detailing and gold-toned applied Arabic numerals and markers.

The steel references take a more playful route, with one combining coral pink and steel grey, and another pairing a pearl-grey centre with petrol-blue subdials and tachymeter ring.
On the steel models, the applied numerals and markers are black rhodium-plated.
Syringe-shaped hands with Super-LumiNova complete the display across all versions.

The A5000 keeps the chronograph traditional
Inside is Angelus’ hand-wound A5000 calibre, produced by La Joux-Perret.
The movement’s architecture traces its lineage to the THA chronograph calibre developed in the late 1980s, later known as the Cartier 045MC and used in the 1999 Cartier Tortue Monopoussoir.
Its construction is properly old-school, with a column wheel, horizontal clutch and oscillating-pinion coupling.

The calibre runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a 42-hour power reserve.
Finishing includes a 3N gold-toned mainplate and bridges with Geneva stripes and circular graining, contrasted by rhodium-plated steel chronograph components.

The Chronographe Tachymètre works because Angelus hasn’t tried to inflate the idea beyond its natural scale.

It’s a small, hand-wound, mechanically engaging chronograph with just enough colour and instrumental detail to stand apart from the usual vintage revival formula.
