Filmed up close in US traffic, the camouflaged two-door test car shows off several production-leaning details while towing a trailer from the rear.
That trailer is the odd part, but the car itself is the more important one, especially as AMG appears to be preparing the CLE 63 for a return to serious V8 muscle.

The trailer raises more questions than it answers
The most unusual detail is the trailer attached to the back of the prototype.
Manufacturers often use trailers during development to simulate extra load, test cooling systems, evaluate drivetrain behaviour or stress calibration in real-world conditions.
Mercedes-AMG hasn’t detailed what was being evaluated here, so the trailer’s exact purpose remains unclear.
Still, seeing a high-performance AMG coupe hauling test equipment in traffic is a reminder that these cars are developed far beyond smooth roads and carefully staged launch routes.
V8 expectations for the next CLE 63
The biggest talking point around the 2027 Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 is what sits under the bonnet.
The car is widely expected to use AMG’s new flat-plane crank V8, a 4.0-litre engine already associated with the latest S-Class application.
In that setting, the unit produces 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque.
A CLE 63 version would almost certainly receive its own calibration, because a lighter, more focused two-door AMG has very different demands from a large luxury sedan.
Earlier prototype images have also pointed toward a more assertive front end, likely with a large grille featuring vertical slats, a central Mercedes star and reshaped lower intakes for cooling and aerodynamic management.
