Vacheron Constantin Brings New Colour to the 34.5mm Overseas

Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas has always carried more weight than its polished sports-watch profile suggests.

Its lineage reaches back to the 222 of 1977, but the modern Overseas has become its own sharply defined proposition, especially since the third-generation collection arrived in 2016.

The latest additions bring that formula into a more compact 34.5mm case, with one model in stainless steel and deep red, and another in 18k rose gold with a warm golden dial.

The appeal of these new references is not simply that they’re smaller.

At 34.5mm wide and 9.3mm thick, they preserve the essential character of the Overseas while offering a case size that will sit more naturally on smaller wrists.

The case architecture remains distinctly Overseas, built around a tonneau-shaped base, a circular plinth and the six-sided bezel inspired by the Maltese Cross.

That bezel is one of the defining details of the collection, and on non-gem-set references like these, its geometry reads with particular clarity.

Finishing plays a large role in how the watch carries itself.

The bezel is polished, the plinth is circular satin-brushed, and the case and integrated bracelet combine vertical satin brushing with polished flanks.

The two new models take very different approaches to colour.

The peripheral minutes track has a velvety finish, while the applied hour markers and hands are in 18k pink gold and treated with blue-emission Super-LumiNova.

It’s a cohesive, monochrome expression of the Overseas, but not a quiet one.

The stainless steel model brings more contrast through a deep-red lacquered dial that immediately changes the energy of the watch.

Here, the sunburst centre is separated from the outer minutes track by a steel ring, giving the dial a more technical and sport-driven edge.

Both models place the date at 3 o’clock within a bevelled aperture, finished with a polished exterior and grained interior.

Calibre 1088/1 and the Overseas strap system

Inside both watches is Vacheron Constantin’s manufacture calibre 1088/1, a slim automatic movement made from 144 components.

It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, offers a 40-hour power reserve and is protected by an anti-magnetic soft-iron casing ring.

Through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement is finished with a 22k gold rotor decorated with a compass rose, a fitting motif for a collection built around travel-ready elegance.

The practical side of the Overseas remains one of its strongest assets.

Each watch is delivered with three fully interchangeable options, allowing the wearer to move between integrated bracelet, alligator leather and rubber without tools.

The stainless steel reference comes with a steel bracelet, a shiny red alligator strap and a red rubber strap.

The rose gold model is delivered with an 18k rose gold bracelet, a white alligator strap and a white textured rubber strap.

The bracelet includes a comfort-extension system, and an additional triple-blade folding clasp is supplied for the leather and rubber straps.
