Urwerk has a habit of treating its departing watches with a sense of occasion, and the UR-120 Blue Planet keeps that tradition intact.
This final version of the UR-120 takes one of the brand’s most distinctive satellite displays and gives it a deeper, more theatrical finish, pairing a blue PVD case with carefully placed 24k gold accents.
Limited to 20 pieces, it’s a closing chapter aimed squarely at collectors who prefer Urwerk at its most mechanical and idiosyncratic.

A blue closing chapter for the UR-120
The UR-120 first appeared in 2022 in a monochromatic titanium and steel configuration, followed by the darker UR-120 Space Black.
The Blue Planet edition doesn’t alter the architecture that made the watch stand out, but it changes the tone significantly.
The case retains its broad, asymmetrical 47mm by 44mm profile and 15.8mm thickness, with hinged lugs, a shaped sapphire crystal and a crown positioned at 12 o’clock beneath a swivelling cover.

Here, the sandblasted titanium-and-steel construction is finished in blue PVD, giving the watch a more unified and celestial character than the earlier versions.
A gold hinge on the crown cover hints at the finishing approach inside, where Urwerk uses gold sparingly but deliberately rather than as decoration for its own sake.
The split-cube satellite display remains the focus
The UR-120’s appeal has always centred on its way of showing the hours.

Urwerk’s familiar wandering satellite system is pushed further here by splitting the hour markers into two cubes, which separate, rotate, reconnect and then travel along the curved minute scale during each one-hour cycle.
It’s a display that turns timekeeping into choreography, but it still reads as a functional instrument once the logic clicks.
For the Blue Planet edition, the timing indications are finished in blue, while key working elements receive 24k gold plating.

The contrast gives the mechanism more visual depth and makes the motion of the satellite system easier to appreciate at a glance.
Luminous markings and numerals keep the display legible in low light, an important detail on a watch that could otherwise lean entirely toward spectacle.
The UR-20.01 movement and Windfänger rotor
Inside is Urwerk’s automatic Calibre UR-20.01, the same mechanical platform that gives the UR-120 its unusual motion and visual identity.

The movement runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and stores 48 hours of power reserve when fully wound.
Its winding system uses Urwerk’s Windfänger airscrew-governed rotor, a signature component designed to regulate the rotor’s speed and add another layer of kinetic theatre.
The calibre brings together a characteristically broad mix of materials, including beryllium-copper, grey PVD brass, gold PVD, black-rhodium anodised aluminium, ARCAP, titanium and LIGA-processed nickel components.

Finishing includes circular and straight graining, sandblasting, Côtes de Genève and polished screws, all in keeping with Urwerk’s technical, industrial approach to high-end watchmaking.

The UR-120 Blue Planet feels less like a colour variant than a carefully staged exit for one of Urwerk’s more compelling recent designs.
Its appeal lies in that balance between mechanical complexity and visual clarity, with enough gold to sharpen the drama without softening the watch’s unmistakably technical personality.
