Tudor Brings Back the Northflag With a True GMT Movement

The Tudor Northflag is back, and its return feels more purposeful than nostalgic.

First introduced in 2015 as the North Flag, the model marked a turning point for Tudor as the brand’s first watch with an in-house movement visible through the caseback.

Now it returns as the Northflag GMT, keeping the angular sports-watch attitude while adding the dual-time function that suits its exploration-minded character.

A sharper return for Tudor’s angular explorer

The Northflag has always sat slightly apart from Tudor’s vintage-leaning mainstream.

Its roots reach back to the 1970s Ranger II, a watch with a tonneau-style case, a broad bezel and an integrated bracelet that looked unlike the more familiar tool-watch silhouettes in the brand’s archive.

That same spirit carries into the new Northflag GMT, though Tudor has tightened the proportions and cleaned up some of the visual weight.

The stainless steel case remains 40mm across, but it is now 12.7mm thick, down from the 13.4mm profile of the earlier North Flag.

The lug-to-lug measurement has also been reduced to 48.8mm, which should make the watch easier to wear than its assertive shape might suggest.

The bezel is fixed, brushed and more angled than before, and Tudor has removed the black contrasting ring that previously sat below it.

Paired with a box-shaped sapphire crystal, the result is a slimmer, cleaner take on a watch that was never trying to be discreet.

The GMT dial suits the Northflag’s personality

The black dial keeps the high-contrast character that defined the original, with white hands and markers joined by yellow accents for the seconds and GMT hands.

Tudor has removed the old power-reserve display, which gives the watch a more functional layout and makes room for the 24-hour GMT indication.

The inner flange carries a fixed 24-hour scale, giving the yellow GMT hand a clear track without crowding the central dial.

The hour markers and numerals are made from monobloc ceramic and filled with luminous material, a detail that gives the dial a crisp, technical finish rather than a printed flatness.

A date window sits at 3 o’clock, keeping the travel-watch brief practical without introducing unnecessary complication.

Inside the case is Tudor’s proven true GMT calibre

The Northflag GMT runs on the calibre MT5652-U, a Kenissi-made automatic movement already associated with Tudor’s modern dual-time watches.

It is a true GMT movement, meaning it is designed around practical travel use rather than simply tracking a second time zone from the 24-hour hand alone.

The calibre is Master Chronometer-certified by METAS and COSC, runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 65-hour power reserve.

It also uses a silicon balance spring and a variable inertia balance, both details that underline Tudor’s current emphasis on precision and durability.

As with the 2015 watch, the movement can be seen through a sapphire display back, an important detail given the Northflag’s place in Tudor’s modern movement history.

Bracelet, positioning and boutique availability

The watch is fitted to an integrated-style stainless steel bracelet with H-shaped links, finished primarily in brushing with polished accents.

That bracelet includes Tudor’s T-Fit rapid adjustment clasp, a practical feature that makes sense on a daily sports watch likely to see changing temperatures and travel days.

The Northflag GMT joins Tudor’s permanent collection, but distribution is deliberately narrow.

It will be available only through Tudor boutiques, priced at CHF 4,500 or EUR 5,050.

The Northflag GMT won’t be the most traditional watch in Tudor’s catalogue, and that is exactly the point.

For collectors who liked the original’s angular personality but wanted a stronger travel function, this revival gives the model a clearer role and a more convincing reason to return.
