Alpina Gives the Seastrong Diver Extreme a Route du Rhum Sailing Edition

Alpina’s latest Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic trades bright dive-watch energy for a more nautical character.

The new Route du Rhum edition takes the compact cushion-shaped diver introduced in 2024 and ties it closely to offshore sailing, with a turquoise dial, compass bezel and race-specific details.

It’s still a practical 300-metre sports watch, but the visual language is now firmly pointed toward the Atlantic.

The Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic Route du Rhum keeps one of the strongest parts of the modern Seastrong formula, which is its compact footprint.

At 39mm across, 40.5mm lug to lug and 13.4mm thick, it sits in a rare space for a contemporary 300-metre sports watch with an assertive case shape.

The stainless-steel case mixes brushed and polished surfaces, giving the cushion profile more definition without pushing it into dress-watch territory.

Alpina has fitted the watch with a bidirectional bezel carrying a carbon-fibre insert, marked with four cardinal points and a full 360-degree scale.

That compass-style treatment shifts the personality away from a conventional dive bezel and closer to navigation, which suits the Route du Rhum connection.

A screw-down crown with a rubber grip and a screwed solid caseback help preserve the watch’s 300-metre water resistance.

The Atlantic-current dial is the defining detail

The dial is where this edition most clearly separates itself from the standard Seastrong Diver Extreme Automatic.

Alpina uses a turquoise grained surface engraved with a pattern inspired by Atlantic Ocean currents, adding texture without making the watch difficult to read.

A turquoise outer ring and white minute track frame the dial, while applied silver-coloured indexes and matching hour and minute hands bring the required contrast.

Grade X1 Super-LumiNova is used on the indexes and main hands, an important detail for a watch that still presents itself as a capable aquatic tool.

The seconds hand adds a small hit of colour through a red triangle, and the date sits neatly at 6 o’clock.

The number 13 on the date wheel appears in red, a discreet nod to the race edition rather than an oversized branding exercise.

AL-525 automatic movement and rubber strap

Inside is Alpina’s AL-525 calibre, an automatic movement using a Sellita SW200-1 base.

It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, uses 24 jewels and offers a 38-hour power reserve.

The movement handles hours, minutes, seconds and date, keeping the specification straightforward and familiar for a daily sports watch.

The strap continues the two-tone treatment, combining a textured black central section with turquoise side flanks.

Its Cordura-effect finish gives the rubber a more technical look, while the stainless-steel pin buckle keeps the setup simple and secure.

The Route du Rhum edition works because it doesn’t abandon the Seastrong Diver Extreme’s practical core.

It simply gives the watch a sharper identity, pairing a wearable case size and robust specification with enough sailing detail to feel distinct rather than decorative.
