The run-up to Geneva Watch Days 2026 is already showing a clear mood among independents and high-craft maisons.
Instead of one dominant trend, the newest releases lean into character, from enamel and featherwork to tantalum, porcelain and a build-it-yourself mechanical clock with a filmic edge.
It’s a strong reminder that the most interesting watchmaking often happens in the margins, where limited production and unusual materials can still shape the conversation.

High craft moves from decoration to architecture
Speake Marin’s Tourbillon Royal Blue is the most direct expression of the brand’s house colour yet, pairing a 42mm 5N red-gold Piccadilly case with a three-dimensional openworked dial treated in royal blue PVD.
The flying tourbillon sits high on the dial at 1:30, while the power reserve display at 7:30 gives the composition a deliberately off-centre rhythm.
Limited to five pieces, the watch is powered by the automatic SMA05 calibre, which offers 72 hours of power reserve and brings cool rhodium-plated components into contrast with the warmth of red gold.
Renaud Tixier is working in a quieter but no less involved register with the Monday Organica Black and Bordeaux.
The two editions complete a trilogy begun by the Blue version, with the Black housed in 950 platinum and the Bordeaux in 5N rose gold.
Both use 40.8mm cases with hand-engraved casebands and lug sections, while the dials are engraved, chased and finished in grand feu enamel by Ateliers Olivier Vaucher.
Vacheron Constantin’s Métiers d’Art Tribute to the Animal Kingdom concept watches take the idea of dial craft into more experimental territory.
The six pieces are named Feathersnake, Glassoctopus, Oraygami, Tigerbroidery, Papercroc and Woodenwings, with each using a different decorative discipline including featherwork, glass sculpting, micro-origami, gold embroidery, paper sculpting and wood marquetry.
The shared calibre 2460 G4 displays the time, day and date through apertures around the edge of the dial, leaving the centre open for the artwork.
Mechanical objects beyond the wrist
The Maison Alcée × MB&F Nostromo brings a different kind of participation into mechanical watchmaking culture.
Created for M.A.D.Gallery’s 15th anniversary, the table clock is supplied as a 222-component kit, with only the regulating organ pre-assembled.
The owner installs the remaining components over roughly 10 hours using professional tools, a 250-page illustrated manual and QR-linked instructional videos.
Its design takes inspiration from the commercial space tug in Ridley Scott’s 1979 film Alien, but the appeal isn’t just cinematic.
Once assembled, Nostromo displays hours, minutes and seconds, adds a switchable hour chime and runs for 14 days when fully wound.
URWERK’s unique UR-1001 Amadeus also sits outside conventional wristwatch scale, revisiting the brand’s pocket-watch-sized Zeit Device in a titanium case engraved by Florian Güllert over approximately 500 hours.
Its display combines wandering satellite hours, retrograde minutes, running seconds, day-night indication, power reserve and a satellite calendar.
The reverse adds the kind of long-view mechanical theatre URWERK does particularly well, including a five-year service indicator and running-time counters for 100 and 1,000 years.
Porcelain, tantalum and a sharper everyday proposition
anOrdain’s new Model 1 Porcelain brings the Glasgow brand’s dial obsession into a different material language.
The off-white dial is made from clay that is press-moulded, fired and glazed inside the brand’s workshop, then paired with bespoke numerals by type designer Kia Tasbihgou.
Thermally blued hands, oversized hour markers and an interrupted chemin de fer give the 38mm steel watch a crisp, slightly unconventional presence.
The automatic La Joux-Perret G101 is offered in two grades, with pricing set at USD 2,950 for the G101 version and USD 3,400 for the A1.
Atelier Wen and Massena LAB take the material story in a denser, more industrial direction with the Inflection Shuò.
Limited to 50 pieces, it uses a 99.9 percent pure tantalum case and integrated bracelet, matched with a hand-tremblage gold dial.
The dial reworks the California layout with Arabic numerals across the upper half in Massena LAB’s typeface and specially commissioned Chinese numerals integrated into the design.
