TAG Heuer’s Carrera family has had no shortage of attention in recent years, but the sportier side of the line is getting a meaningful reset.
The Carrera Chronograph Sport returns with cleaner proportions, a more technical dial treatment and a case that should make far more sense on the wrist than its 44mm predecessor.
It remains a modern automatic chronograph with a motorsport edge, but the changes bring it closer to how collectors actually wear larger sports watches today.

A leaner Carrera case for daily wear
The headline change is the case size.
TAG Heuer has brought the Carrera Chronograph Sport down from 44mm to 42mm, while thickness has been reduced from 15.48mm to 14.17mm.
That still places it firmly in the contemporary sports chronograph category, but the reduction matters.
A two-millimetre shift on paper can feel much larger on the wrist, especially on a chronograph with pushers, a tachymeter bezel and a steel bracelet.
The case remains stainless steel and keeps the general profile of the earlier Carrera Chronograph Sport, so this is an evolution rather than a full redesign.
The result is a watch that should carry the same purposeful Carrera stance without feeling quite so broad or tall.
TAG Heuer has also cleaned up the external controls.
The crown and chronograph pushers lose the central banding seen before, giving them a smoother and more uniform look.
The bezel has been reworked as well, moving from the previous wide ceramic construction to a steel cradle with a ceramic insert.
That detail visually narrows the watch and makes the reduced case diameter feel more deliberate.
A dial that pushes the chronograph function forward
The new Carrera Chronograph Sport also changes the balance of the dial.
Instead of the previous set of chunky bar hour markers, TAG Heuer now uses a 60-minute scale with Arabic numerals around the dial.
It gives the watch a more instrument-led character and places the emphasis back on timing, which is the practical reason a sports chronograph exists in the first place.
The decision will likely divide Carrera fans.
Some will miss the bolder hour-marker layout, but the minute scale helps separate this model from the retro-leaning Glassbox side of the Carrera collection.
The chronograph layout itself remains familiar.
The watch carries a 12-hour counter, a 30-minute counter and running seconds at 6 o’clock, with the date window integrated into the lower subdial.
Inside is TAG Heuer’s calibre TH20-00, an automatic chronograph movement with an 80-hour power reserve.
It is the modern successor to the HEUER 02 used in the earlier Carrera Chronograph Sport, keeping the collection aligned with the brand’s current in-house chronograph architecture.
Four dial options and one racing leather alternative
TAG Heuer is offering the refreshed Carrera Chronograph Sport in four dial treatments.
The line-up includes black opalin with red accents, blue sunray with silver accents, green sunray with silver accents and a silver sunray panda configuration with black accents.
Most versions are supplied on a stainless steel bracelet.
The blue dial is the exception, as it is also offered on a light brown perforated calfskin racing strap.
That strap option gives the watch a slightly warmer and more vintage-inflected personality, while the bracelet keeps the collection in sharper everyday sports-watch territory.
Pricing is set at £5,500 for the bracelet models and £5,300 for the blue dial on leather.
That places the new Carrera Chronograph Sport above the previous full-steel versions, while keeping the focus on a more wearable case and a clearer identity within the wider Carrera range.

By trimming the case, refining the hardware and giving the dial a more explicit chronograph purpose, TAG Heuer has made the watch easier to understand and easier to wear.
For collectors who like the Carrera name but want something more contemporary than the Glassbox, this 42mm Sport now has a clearer reason to be on the shortlist.
