The Monza has always carried a particular charge inside TAG Heuer’s back catalogue.
Born from one of motorsport’s great Ferrari moments, it’s a watch defined as much by black-case attitude as by timing function.
For its 50th anniversary, the TAG Heuer Monza Flyback Chronograph 42 mm brings that spirit into a forged carbon case, with a more faithful dial mood than the skeletonised 2023 interpretation and a production run capped at 500 numbered pieces.

At a glance
- TAG Heuer has introduced the Monza Flyback Chronograph 42 mm as a 500-piece limited edition marking 50 years of the Monza name.
- The watch combines a forged carbon case, black dial, red accents, pulsometer and tachymeter scales, and the in-house Calibre TH20-12 flyback chronograph movement.
- Its motorsport appeal is anchored in the 1976 Heuer Monza and the Ferrari championship era that inspired it.
A Monza anniversary with Ferrari-era roots
The original Heuer Monza arrived in 1976, one year after Niki Lauda’s third-place finish at Monza helped secure the Drivers’ Championship for Ferrari and contributed to Scuderia Ferrari’s Constructors’ Championship success.
That early watch stood apart with a black PVD-coated brass case, giving it a tougher and more technical character than many chronographs of its period.
TAG Heuer later revisited the Monza in steel during the 2000s, while the 2023 edition pushed the design toward a modern skeletonised expression.

This new anniversary model takes a different route, bringing back the visual punch of the early black-cased Monza while using a case material that feels much more contemporary.
Forged carbon gives each case its own character
The 42 mm case is made from forged carbon, a material with a marbled surface created by compressed carbon fibre strands and resin rather than the regular weave associated with conventional carbon fibre sheets.
The result is light, strong and visually irregular, so each case carries its own pattern.

A 42 mm diameter can sound substantial, but the short lugs and low weight should make this Monza easier on the wrist than the number suggests.
TAG Heuer adds black DLC steel pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock, with a carbon crown between them.
The caseback is black DLC Grade 2 titanium and carries numbered engraving for the 500-piece edition, while a sapphire window reveals the movement.

A darker dial with period cues and useful scales
Unlike the openworked 2023 Monza, this model uses a deep matte black dial with white applied indices and hands for clean legibility.
Super-LumiNova on the key indications keeps the display readable in low light, while red accents bring back the racing tone without overwhelming the watch.
The chronograph minute counter sits at 3 o’clock with a red lacquered hand, the running seconds appear at 6 o’clock, and an angled trapezoidal date window is positioned at 9 o’clock.

A black flange around the dial carries both a pulsometer and tachymeter scale, giving the watch two historically relevant timing tools in addition to the chronograph itself.
The TH20-12 flyback movement inside
The Monza Flyback Chronograph 42 mm is powered by TAG Heuer’s Calibre TH20-12, an in-house automatic movement with an 80-hour power reserve.
It is COSC-certified, which means the movement has been tested for chronometer-level precision across multiple positions and temperatures.

The integrated chronograph uses a column wheel and vertical coupling, a pairing valued for crisp pusher feel and smooth chronograph engagement.
The flyback function is especially fitting for a motorsport-linked watch, allowing the wearer to reset and immediately restart the chronograph with a single press of the lower pusher while timing is underway.
Through the sapphire caseback, the movement shows contemporary finishing and a bidirectional winding rotor shaped like the TAG Heuer shield.

The watch is fitted to a black perforated calfskin strap with red stitching, secured by a black DLC titanium clasp with double push buttons.
