TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa Makes a Case for Quiet Cool

Some watch collaborations work before the spec sheet enters the conversation.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa is one of them, a crisp white 39mm Glassbox Carrera with red details, a racing-studio backstory and enough restraint to keep the design from becoming costume.

Its appeal sits at the intersection of Japanese motorsport culture, archival timing instruments and the modern Carrera’s clean geometry.

Team Ikuzawa was founded by Japanese racing driver Tetsu Ikuzawa, but its contemporary identity is broader than a traditional racing outfit.

Under the direction of Mai Ikuzawa, it has become a creative studio moving between motorsport, fashion, photography, design and luxury.

That matters here because the watch doesn’t feel like a simple colour application.

It taps into a very specific visual world, one shaped by Japanese racing history and by the timing instruments that sat close to the action in the 1970s and 1980s.

A Carrera dial with stopwatch instincts

The Carrera has always been about legibility, a principle that dates back to Jack Heuer’s 1963 chronograph.

The wide dial opening, clean type and balanced layout were never decorative afterthoughts, but part of a tool-watch approach to reading elapsed time quickly.

The Team Ikuzawa connection strengthens that idea rather than distracting from it.

The white Clous de Paris dial carries a black printed minute track and indexes, while red appears on the central chronograph seconds hand and crown.

The Team Ikuzawa logo sits at 6 o’clock, given room by the decision to omit a running seconds display.

That absence will not please every chronograph purist, but it gives the dial the negative space it needs.

Instead of looking crowded, the layout feels deliberate, with the printed graphics recalling the clear, functional language of Roadmaster stopwatches associated with Team Ikuzawa.

Bamford’s restraint keeps the Carrera intact

George Bamford and Bamford Watch Department are a natural fit for this project because Bamford’s best work often comes from reframing familiar objects without overwhelming them.

Here, the 39mm Glassbox Carrera platform does much of the heavy lifting.

The domed sapphire crystal and slim bezel give the dial a broad visual stage, while the stainless steel case keeps the watch inside the established Carrera silhouette.

The movement is left to do what it already does well.

Inside is TAG Heuer’s Manufacture Calibre TH20-10, an automatic chronograph movement with a column wheel, vertical clutch, bidirectional winding and an 80-hour power reserve.

The result is a collaboration that feels tuned rather than transformed.

It has enough graphic character to stand apart, but not so much that the Carrera disappears beneath the concept.
