Sun Siyam Pasikudah Opens Aqua Lounge on the Waters of Pasikudah Bay

Pasikudah Bay has a new reason to draw travellers east.

Sun Siyam Pasikudah has opened Aqua Lounge, a floating dining platform set directly on the open water and designed around the flavours, light and rhythm of Sri Lanka’s eastern coastline.

Reached by catamaran from the resort’s shore, it gives guests a way to dine not beside the Indian Ocean, but quite literally on it.

Aqua Lounge is billed as the only floating ocean dining platform on Pasikudah Bay, and its setting is central to the appeal.

This isn’t a deck on a lagoon or a riverside restaurant dressed up as a novelty venue.

The platform sits on the open waters of the Indian Ocean in eastern Sri Lanka, giving diners an uninterrupted sense of the bay’s shallow turquoise water, evening light and calm horizon.

The main dining experience is a seven-course menu shaped by the produce and culinary character of Sri Lanka’s east coast.

Evenings begin with sunset refreshments as the colour shifts across the bay, before the meal unfolds over the water.

The platform remains open into the night for guests who want a slower, more atmospheric dinner with the sound of the water underneath them.

For a quieter start to the day, breakfast on the platform can also be arranged on request.

Arshed Refai, General Manager of Sun Siyam Pasikudah, described the idea as a way to place guests at the centre of the bay rather than simply facing it from shore.

He also points to the menu as part of the story, with local ingredients, fishermen and regional techniques helping define the experience.

A wider role beyond the resort

Aqua Lounge is also used as part of the resort’s community work with children from nearby villages.

Rather than treating the platform purely as a guest amenity, the resort brings local school children onto the water for conversations about Pasikudah Bay, its coral reef and the importance of caring for both.

It’s a thoughtful extension of the project, and one that gives the platform a purpose beyond private dining.
