Straum Gives the Jan Mayen a Frosted Titanium Edge

Straum’s Jan Mayen has always had a sharp sense of place, but the new Frozen Metal Titanium pushes the Norwegian brand’s sports watch into a cooler, more technical register.

The headline is not just the icy dial, but the arrival of Straum’s first matching titanium bracelet for the Jan Mayen Titanium line.

It gives the watch a more complete integrated-sports feel while keeping the compact proportions that have made the collection so wearable.

The Frozen Metal Titanium sits within Straum’s Jan Mayen Titanium series, using a 38.7mm Grade 5 titanium case with an 11.5mm thickness including the crystal.

Those dimensions keep it in the sweet spot for a modern everyday sports watch, especially for buyers who want presence without the bulk that often comes with integrated designs.

The case is water resistant to 100 metres, giving the watch enough practical resilience for daily wear rather than limiting it to desk-diving duty.

The new dial is the most immediate visual change.

Straum uses a frosted galvanic treatment on a plain dial disc, creating a bare-metal finish that appears to push outward from the centre.

It’s an austere choice, but an effective one, as the absence of added dial colour lets the surface texture do the work.

The first Straum titanium bracelet

The bracelet is the major mechanical and ownership story here.

For the first time, a Jan Mayen Titanium can be ordered on a matching Grade 5 titanium bracelet rather than only on rubber.

Straum has gone with an H-link construction and a mix of frosted and polished surfaces, a finishing approach made possible by the harder surface of Grade 5 titanium compared with softer titanium grades.

The bracelet also includes a micro-adjustment clasp and a quick-release system, both of which matter on a watch intended to be worn often.

Just as importantly, the bracelet is being sold separately and is fully compatible with existing Jan Mayen Titanium models.

That should interest current owners, although at £610 excluding taxes, it is not an impulse accessory.

Frostbite blue details and a proven automatic calibre

The dial’s pale metallic tone is contrasted by polished blue PVD-coated hands and indices.

Straum calls the shade frostbite blue, which fits the watch’s winter-leaning personality without turning the design into a novelty piece.

This is the first time the brand has used PVD coating for these elements, and consistency of colour and finish is the key challenge with parts this small and visible.

Inside, the Frozen Metal Titanium uses the La Joux-Perret G101 automatic calibre familiar from the broader Jan Mayen range.

It is the Soigné grade version, adjusted in four positions and rated to a daily rate of plus or minus 7 seconds.

The movement runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 68-hour power reserve, which gives it enough reserve to sit off the wrist over a weekend without immediately needing attention.

The calibre is visible through an exhibition caseback with Côtes de Genève finishing.
