Sinn’s 65th anniversary watch is exactly the sort of instrument the Frankfurt brand does best.
The new 140 A S Anniversary takes a chronograph family with a real spaceflight connection and updates it with Sinn’s SZ01 movement, a hard-coated steel case and the practical engineering details that have long defined the marque.
At a glance
- Sinn has introduced the 140 A S Anniversary as a 300-piece limited-edition chronograph for its 65th year of watchmaking.
- The watch uses the Sinn SZ01 self-winding chronograph movement, with a central 60-minute chronograph hand and jumping minutes for direct elapsed-time reading.
- It is priced at €5,490 and continues the 140 series’ link to the 1985 D1 Spacelab mission.
A 140 Series Watch With Space in Its Backstory
The 140 series has a particular place in Sinn’s catalogue because it isn’t merely styled like a tool watch from the space age.

During the D1 Spacelab mission in 1985, physicist and astronaut Reinhard Furrer wore a Sinn 140 S fitted with the Lemania 5100 movement.
That moment helped give the model its reputation, as the mission demonstrated the practical use of a self-winding mechanical chronograph in the weightless environment of space.
The 140 A S Anniversary doesn’t try to turn that history into nostalgia alone.

Instead, it keeps the broad functional language of the series and places the emphasis on speed of reading, case durability and reliability under changing conditions.
The SZ01 Movement and Central Minute Reading
The technical centre of the watch is Sinn’s SZ01 self-winding chronograph movement, which is based on the architecture of the ETA 7750.
Its signature feature is the centrally mounted 60-minute chronograph hand with jumping minutes.

Rather than placing elapsed minutes in a small subdial, Sinn puts them at the centre of the dial, making the chronograph read more like a primary instrument than an added complication.
A minute scale running around the dial supports that layout, allowing measured intervals to be read quickly at a glance.
The chronograph display is completed by a central chronograph seconds hand, while the watch also includes subsidiary seconds and a date indication.

The movement runs at 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour, uses 28 jewels and includes a stop-seconds function.
It is also anti-magnetic in accordance with DIN 8309.
Black Hard Coating and Sinn’s Case Technology
The case is stainless steel, measuring 44 mm across and 15.5 mm thick, with a 22 mm lug width.

Sinn gives it a combination of polished and satinised surfaces before applying a black hard coating over a TEGIMENT-treated surface, a pairing intended to improve scratch resistance.
The dial stays close to the purposeful character of the 140 family, using a matte black base with high-contrast chronograph indications.
Yellow chronograph hands separate timing functions from the standard time display, while luminous coating is applied to the chronograph hands, hour and minute hands and dial indices.

An internal pilot’s bezel with a luminous key mark adds another timing function without crowding the external case profile.
The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides and a screw-fastened case back.
Water resistance is rated to 10 bar, equivalent to a nominal pressure rating of 100 metres or 330 feet.

Sinn’s Ar-Dehumidifying Technology is included to reduce moisture inside the case, helping to prevent fogging and support functional reliability.
The crown and push-pieces use the brand’s D3-System, designed to improve sealing against external influences.
A leather strap with yellow accents echoes the chronograph hands, offering a more graphic alternative to the more uniform look of the bracelet.

The 140 A S Anniversary should appeal to collectors who like Sinn at its most technically direct, especially those drawn to the brand’s aviation and spaceflight associations rather than ornamental anniversary flourishes.
It’s a commemorative piece, but its strongest argument is practical, with the central minute chronograph display and hardened case doing most of the talking.
