Seiko is expanding its 5 Sports Field Series with four new automatic models that bring a compass-style rotating bezel to the brand’s affordable sports-watch range. The HDB006, HDB007, HDB008 and HDB009 share the same core specifications, including a 41mm stainless steel case, 100m water resistance, luminous Arabic numerals and Seiko’s familiar Calibre 4R36 movement.
A more outdoors-focused Seiko 5 Sports Field watch
The Seiko 5 Sports collection has grown steadily since its 2019 relaunch, branching out from SKX-inspired sports watches into pilot, GMT and field-watch designs. This latest Field Series quartet adds a feature more often associated with Seiko’s outdoor-oriented models: a bidirectional compass bezel.
The bezel is made from steel and has a diamond-patterned knurled edge for grip. Depending on the reference, it is either brushed steel or hard-coated in black or brown. A luminous marker indicates north.
Four references, two personalities
All four watches use the same 41mm stainless steel case. Thickness is 13.2mm, lug-to-lug length is 48.5mm, and the lug width is 20mm, which should make strap changes straightforward.
The HDB006 and HDB007 take the more classic route. Both come on a three-link steel bracelet with a folding clasp, paired with either a glossy black dial or a glossy white dial. Their compass bezels are finished in brushed steel.
The HDB008 and HDB009 lean more into the outdoor theme. The HDB008 has a khaki green sunray-brushed dial with a black-coated bezel, while the HDB009 uses a brown sunray-brushed dial with a matching brown-coated bezel. These two models are supplied on nylon straps with leather lining and pin buckles.
Luminous numerals improve practicality
One notable update is the use of LumiBrite on the Arabic numerals. Previous Seiko 5 Sports Field models used lume on the square hour markers, but not on the numerals themselves. On these new watches, the hands and Arabic numerals are luminous, improving low-light legibility.
The dial layout remains straightforward and functional. Each model includes an angled inner minute flange, a central 13-24 hour scale and a day-date display at 3 o’clock.
Familiar Seiko 5 construction
The new Field Series models follow the usual Seiko 5 Sports formula. They use a curved Hardlex crystal, a mineral glass see-through caseback and a push-pull crown. Water resistance is rated to 100 metres.
Inside is Seiko’s in-house Calibre 4R36, an automatic movement with 24 jewels, hacking seconds, a day-date function and a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour, or 3Hz.
Prices and availability
The Seiko 5 Sports Field Series HDB006, HDB007, HDB008 and HDB009 will be part of the permanent collection and are scheduled for worldwide availability in June 2026.
- HDB008 and HDB009 on nylon straps: EUR 390
- HDB006 and HDB007 on steel bracelets: EUR 410
With the addition of the compass bezel and fully luminous numerals, these models strengthen the field-watch side of the Seiko 5 Sports line while keeping the pricing within the brand’s accessible range.
