With the 1902 SYNERGY by Peter Speake, the La Chaux-de-Fonds manufacture sharpens that identity through a collaboration with one of British watchmaking’s most recognisable independent voices.
The result is not a loud reinvention, but a detailed reworking of the 1902 RÉSERVE DE MARCHE with a layered sapphire dial, graphic blue accents and a few unmistakable Speake touches.

Peter Speake brings a different but complementary vocabulary.
The English watchmaker began his training at Hackney College at 17 before moving to Switzerland to study at WOSTEP in Neuchâtel, later building a career that has included work with Harry Winston, MB&F and Maîtres du Temps.
In 2022, he established PS Horology, a project concerned with Swiss-made watches informed by artistic, cultural and historical ideas.
For Schwarz Etienne, the collaboration continues a line of jointly developed watches that began with its earlier SYNERGY project with Kari Voutilainen.
This new piece takes the 1902 RÉSERVE DE MARCHE as its starting point, retaining the broad dial architecture and mechanical character while changing the atmosphere of the watch substantially.
The ice-white sapphire dial is the centre of gravity
The defining element is the dial, an intricate construction of sapphire elements arranged over a metal base.
Schwarz Etienne describes the colour as ice white, though it reads as softer than a stark brilliant white.
That matters, because a clinically bright dial could easily overpower the fine details here.
Instead, the off-white tone gives the watch a calmer character and allows the blue and orange accents to register with more precision.
The sapphire sections are used in layers, creating depth across the display rather than leaving the dial as a flat graphic surface.
Some of these sapphire components measure just 0.35 mm thick, which makes the cutting, drilling and polishing especially demanding.
