Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z family is less about one foldable trying to do everything and more about giving the category clearer shape.
The new lineup brings together the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8, each built around a different rhythm of use.
It’s a notable shift for foldables, which have spent years proving the hardware and are now being positioned around productivity, immersion and everyday expression.

At a glance
- Samsung has unveiled three new foldables, led by the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8.
- The Galaxy Z Fold8 weighs 201 g and pairs a 7.6-inch main display with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy.
- The lineup brings Galaxy AI deeper into each form factor, including multitasking on the Fold models and an AI-native FlexWindow on Flip8.
Three foldables with more defined roles
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra sits at the top of the range as Samsung’s productivity-first foldable, carrying the Ultra badge into a larger workspace for multitasking and content creation.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the more balanced proposition, designed for users who move constantly between quick checks, longer reading sessions, gaming and video.
Then there’s the Galaxy Z Flip8, described as Samsung’s sleekest Flip yet, with a focus on self-expression and quick interactions without needing to open the device every time.

That separation matters because foldables are no longer a single idea.
For some users, the appeal is replacing a phone and small tablet with one device, while others want a compact handset that still feels playful and fast in daily use.
Galaxy Z Fold8 is built around shifting screen habits
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the model with the most detailed positioning, and its display ratios reveal the thinking behind it.

When closed, the 10:16 cover screen is designed for familiar smartphone tasks such as messaging, social updates, browsing and short-form video.
Opened up, the 4:3 main display creates a broader canvas for films, games and visual browsing.
Rotated, that same display ratio is intended to make long-form reading feel more natural, which could be useful for articles, e-books and documents.

Samsung lists the Fold8 at 201 g, making it the lightest Galaxy Z Fold so far.
Inside, it uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy and a 4,800 mAh typical battery, with Samsung positioning the combination around sustained performance rather than just peak power.
Flex Titanium brings the hardware story forward
The new Galaxy Z series also introduces Samsung’s Flex Titanium display structure.

The system combines a titanium-alloy film with an enhanced titanium plate, with the aim of supporting thinner foldable designs while maintaining durability.
Samsung also says the structure is designed to absorb pressure and impact, reduce crease visibility over time and make the opening action feel smoother and lighter.
Foldable phones are judged as much by feel as by specification, so the hinge, display tension and crease management remain central to how premium these devices seem in the hand.

The Fold8’s main display is rated up to 3,000 nits of brightness and adds Vision Booster with a low-reflection finish, which should help outdoor legibility.
Cameras and AI move closer to everyday editing
The Galaxy Z Fold8 uses dual 50 MP cameras across wide and ultra-wide perspectives, giving both lenses high-resolution capture for everyday scenes.
Dual Recording lets users capture both sides of a moment while using the cover screen to preview themselves, a practical fit for vlogs, reactions and shared experiences.

My FanCam adds a more social-first layer by tracking a selected subject and reframing footage into a preferred aspect ratio.
Across the range, Galaxy AI has been tuned to the different forms of each device.
On the Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra, that means leaning into multitasking on larger screens, while the Flip8’s AI-native FlexWindow puts relevant information and shortcuts on the outside display.

Samsung is also bringing partner AI experiences such as Gemini Intelligence into the lineup, with an emphasis on fewer steps, user control, transparency and privacy.

The broader message is that Samsung now sees foldables as a range of lifestyles rather than a single flagship experiment.
If the hardware refinements deliver in daily use, the Galaxy Z Fold8 series could make the choice less about whether a foldable makes sense and more about which kind of foldable fits the way you actually use a phone.
