Raymond Weil’s latest Freelancer leans into one of watchmaking’s most enduring romantic ideas, the travel watch, without pretending to be more complicated than it is.
The new Freelancer World-Traveller pairs a GMT movement with a rotating city bezel, giving it the look and everyday utility of a world-time watch at a more approachable price.
It also arrives with added significance for the family-owned brand, marking Raymond Weil’s 50th anniversary and paying tribute to founder Raymond Weil, whose handwritten signature appears on the dial.

A milestone Freelancer with a traveller’s brief
The Freelancer World-Traveller sits within a particularly important moment for Raymond Weil.
Founded in 1976 during the quartz crisis, the Geneva watchmaker remains family-owned, with Elie Bernheim now leading the company as its third-generation chief executive.
The brand has gained fresh momentum in recent years through the neo-vintage Millesime collection, but this watch takes a different route, using the established Freelancer line as the base for a practical travel complication.

Its limited run of 260 pieces nods to the milestone year and to Raymond Weil himself, with the founder’s personal handwritten signature replacing the usual brand logo on the dial.
GMT function with a city-bezel shortcut
The Freelancer World-Traveller isn’t a traditional world timer in the classical Louis Cottier sense.
Instead, Raymond Weil has chosen a simpler and more attainable solution that still delivers useful information for frequent travellers.

Local time is shown through the central hour, minute and seconds hands, while a central GMT pointer hand with a red outline tracks a second time zone against a fixed 24-hour day-night scale.
The GMT hand can be adjusted independently through the crown in one-hour increments, which makes it an office-style GMT rather than a flyer-style traveller’s GMT.
For a wider view of global time, the wearer manually rotates the outer city bezel, aligning one of the 24 reference cities with the stationary 24-hour ring.

It’s an honest configuration, and arguably a smart one for the price point, because it offers the charm of a world-time display without the cost and mechanical complexity of a full world-time calibre.
Map dial, steel case and RW3230 calibre
The dial is the watch’s strongest visual move.
A relief world map, inspired by the Mercator projection, is built through stamping and laser-texturing processes, with champagne-coloured land masses rising against midnight blue oceans.

The same palette continues across the 24-hour ring, where champagne indicates daytime hours and midnight blue marks the night hours.
A midnight blue city ring carries the names of 24 cities and connects visually to the notched rotating bezel, reinforcing the travel-watch character without making the dial feel purely decorative.
Raymond Weil has also treated the tips of the applied indices, the hour and minute hands, and the arrow-tipped GMT hand with Super-LumiNova for low-light legibility.

The 40mm stainless steel case is relatively slim at 10.25mm, with brushed and polished finishing, a fluted crown and a newly designed notched bezel intended to make city alignment easier.
Inside is the automatic calibre RW3230, built on Sellita SW330-2 GMT architecture and visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.
The movement runs at 4Hz and offers a 56-hour power reserve, a practical figure that suits the watch’s travel-facing personality.

The watch is completed with a midnight blue leather strap, matching top stitching and a steel folding clasp with double-safety push buttons.
