Qatar Insurance Company is turning its mobile app into a broader travel companion for people moving to and from Qatar.
The latest update adds rewards conversion, hotel discovery, event planning and connectivity features alongside the company’s existing travel and visitor health insurance services.
It’s a practical shift for an insurer, but one that reflects how travel planning is increasingly happening inside fewer, more integrated digital platforms.

At a glance
- QIC has added new travel services to the QIC App, including Avios conversion, hotels, events and eSIM access.
- Customers can convert QIC loyalty Coins into Qatar Airways Privilege Club Avios or use Coins toward outbound travel insurance premiums.
- Visitors buying Mandatory Visitors’ Health Insurance through QIC digital platforms receive a complimentary Ooredoo eSIM activation link.
Loyalty Coins move into the travel journey
The most notable addition is the ability for QIC customers to convert their loyalty Coins into Avios, the rewards currency of Qatar Airways Privilege Club.
Those Avios can be used across travel services including flight bookings, cabin upgrades and purchases at Qatar Duty Free.
The connection also puts QIC users within reach of Qatar Airways’ network of more than 150 destinations through the airline and its partners.

QIC has also added more flexibility around insurance payment, allowing customers to use Coins to partially pay for outbound travel insurance premiums.
Coins can be combined with other electronic payment options in the app, giving travellers more choice when arranging cover before a trip.
Hotels and events come into one interface
The new Hotels feature brings accommodation search and booking into the QIC App rather than sending users across multiple platforms.

QIC says the service has been developed with leading service providers and hospitality venues, with options intended to cover different budgets while maintaining a consistent service standard.
The company has also introduced a Calendar feature for residents and visitors in Qatar.
It works as a year-round event discovery tool, letting users browse what’s happening in Doha and select events that match the timing of their stay.

For travellers, that makes the app less of a purely transactional insurance tool and more of a planning layer for the wider trip.
Ooredoo eSIMs for eligible visitors
Connectivity is another part of the update, with QIC partnering with Ooredoo to offer complimentary eSIMs to travellers who purchase Mandatory Visitors’ Health Insurance through QIC’s digital platforms.
After completing the purchase, customers receive an activation link that lets them download and set up the eSIM before arriving in Qatar.
That pre-arrival setup is a useful detail, particularly for visitors who want mobile access as soon as they land for transport, messaging and travel coordination.
QIC’s travel insurance offering
The app expansion sits alongside QIC’s existing travel insurance products for both outbound travellers and international visitors to Qatar.
Its Worldwide Travel package includes cover for medical emergencies, flight delays, baggage loss and passport loss across global destinations, including the United States and Canada.
For Schengen travel, QIC offers the Fly Europe package, a Schengen visa travel insurance product with medical coverage of up to USD 50,000.
Visitors to Qatar can obtain a mandatory health insurance policy through QIC’s digital platform in less than two minutes, with premiums starting from QAR 50.
Salem Al Mannai, Group CEO of QIC, described the update as part of the company’s move beyond core insurance products into everyday digital services, with the goal of giving customers more control through a single app experience.
For frequent travellers, residents and visitors to Qatar, the appeal is straightforward. QIC is bundling insurance, rewards, bookings, event planning and mobile connectivity into one ecosystem, reducing some of the small but familiar frictions that come with organising a trip.
