Peter Speake’s Tsuba line has always carried a layered design idea, mixing a contemporary integrated watch silhouette with references drawn from Japanese culture.
The new PS Horology Tsuba 1720 adds a different kind of history to that framework, looking back to English watchmaking and to George Graham, one of the defining figures of the early 18th century.
It’s not a replica of an antique pocket watch, and that’s the point.

At a glance
- PS Horology has introduced the Tsuba 1720, a 28-piece limited edition inspired by a George Graham pocket watch from 1719/20.
- The watch uses an 18k gold hand-finished dial with laser engraving, ceramic lacquer and redesigned beetle-and-poker style hands.
- It is priced at CHF 26,000 excluding taxes and shipping, with first deliveries expected in February 2027.
George Graham through a contemporary Tsuba lens
PS Horology was founded in Switzerland in 2022 by Peter Speake, whose work has long moved between traditional watchmaking and more architectural modern design.
The Tsuba collection arrived in 2025 with the Tsuba Blue and Tsuba Dong Son, bringing a scalloped, cushion-like case inspired by the Japanese sword guard from which the collection takes its name.
For the Tsuba 1720, Speake turns toward his country of origin and toward George Graham, the London watchmaker who worked from Fleet Street and lived from 1673 to 1751.

Graham was a partner and successor to Thomas Tompion, placing him in one of the most important lines of English horological history.
The reference point here is a pair-case pocket watch made by Graham in 1719/20, fitted with a gold champlevé dial, double chapter rings, black enamel Roman numerals and blued-steel beetle-and-poker hands.
Rather than reproduce that watch directly, the Tsuba 1720 translates its visual language into the existing Tsuba case and proportions.

It also marks the first design collaboration between Peter Speake and PS Horology Creative Director Farhana Safa.
A gold dial with old London in its geometry
The dial is the clearest link to Graham’s watch, but it has been reworked with modern techniques and a different reading logic.
Made from 18k gold, it is hand-finished, laser-engraved, ceramic-lacquered and polished, with the Roman numerals lacquered by hand.

The result echoes the visual depth of champlevé enamel without attempting to pass as a period-correct construction.
One of the most interesting changes is the rearrangement of the chapter rings.
The hours sit on the outside, while the minutes move to the inner scale, requiring a rethink of the handset rather than a simple copy of Graham’s layout.

The beetle hand gains a needle-like extension so it can reach the outer hour scale, while the poker hand incorporates a small shelf that tracks the inner minute ring.
Unlike earlier Tsuba models, the Tsuba 1720 omits the running seconds subdial, keeping the display focused on hours and minutes.
The unchanged Tsuba case gains a Fleet Street signature
The case remains the familiar Tsuba form, measuring 38.3mm across excluding the crown and 8.91mm thick.
It is made from 316L stainless steel and finished with brushed and polished surfaces, preserving the integrated, sporty-chic character of the collection.
The front is fitted with sapphire crystal, while the back includes a shaped sapphire crystal window.
On the reverse, PS Horology has added an engraved historical map and the geographical coordinates of Graham’s former workshop on Fleet Street.
Water resistance is rated to 30 metres.
Micro-rotor mechanics and integrated wearability
Inside is the Vaucher Manufacture calibre 5401, the automatic micro-rotor movement already used in the Tsuba collection.
The calibre measures 30mm in diameter and 2.6mm thick, with 176 components and a 48-hour power reserve.
Its blued tungsten micro-rotor runs on a ceramic ball race, while the free-sprung balance operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour.
The watch is fitted to an integrated stainless steel bracelet with articulated first links.
It also includes a concealed link-adjustment system and a butterfly deployant clasp with push-button release.

The Tsuba 1720 should appeal to collectors who like their historical references interpreted rather than copied, and to those drawn to Peter Speake’s habit of making old watchmaking ideas feel graphic, legible and current.
