Pequignet has taken one of watchmaking’s most familiar instruments and tuned it to a different frequency.
The Royale Paris Chrono BPM is a French-made chronograph with a dial inspired by French Touch, the Paris-born house movement associated with Cassius, Daft Punk and Stardust.
Instead of using its outer scale for pulse, speed or distance, this watch uses it to read beats per minute.

A chronograph scale made for rhythm
The Royale Paris Chrono BPM is built around a simple but unusually charming idea.
Where a traditional chronograph might carry a pulsometer, telemeter or tachymeter on the rehaut, Pequignet places a BPM scale around the edge of the display.
The concept ties directly to French Touch, the electronic music style that emerged from Paris club culture in the 1990s and became known for disco and funk sampling, filter effects, phasers, heavy basslines and a steady 4/4 rhythm.

On the watch, the scale is designed to help identify tempo, with light blue Arabic numerals marking beats per minute and a coloured section between 12 and 2 o’clock that resembles a stylised EQ spectrum analyser.
It’s playful, but not ornamental for its own sake.
The chronograph still performs conventional timing duties through a central chronograph seconds hand and a 30-minute counter, while the BPM scale gives the watch a more specific cultural point of view.

Blue, black and Pequignet’s dial architecture
The dial is split between electric blue across the upper half and a darker black tone across the lower portion.
Both colours are finished with vertical brushing, giving the surface a more architectural feel than a flat graphic treatment.
Two snailed registers sit across the dial, with the 30-minute chronograph counter on the left and small seconds on the right.

The steel hour and minute hands are filled with luminous material, while faceted indexes give the watch enough definition to keep the time display clear.
Pequignet also carries over the circular gouge detail seen on the Royale Paris, placing a recessed ring near the indexes.
The baton-style markers span that groove, and the glass box sapphire crystal adds further depth to a dial that is already working in layers.

A French case with practical detail
The 39.5 mm case is made from 316L stainless steel and combines satin-brushed and polished surfaces.
Its construction includes separately attached lugs, a traditional approach that allows for more precise finishing and, if needed, individual replacement of a damaged lug.
The case profile has its own character, with a recessed case middle sitting between a slightly broader bezel and caseback.

A fine line bisects the caseband, while the chronograph pushers have dimpled vertical facets.
The crown carries the fleur-de-lys, a small but pointed reminder of the watch’s French identity.
At the back, a sapphire exhibition caseback reveals the Calibre Initial Chronograph, and the watch is supplied on a black Cordura strap with an interchangeable strap system and steel pin buckle.

The Calibre Initial becomes a chronograph
The movement is the self-winding Calibre Initial Chronograph, combining Pequignet’s Calibre Initial base with a Dubois Dépraz chronograph module.
Pequignet has stated that the Calibre Initial was designed from the outset with the possibility of carrying a chronograph module, allowing the brand to develop this pairing with Dubois Dépraz.
The movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz, which feels neatly aligned with a watch that takes rhythm as its theme.

Its chronograph mechanism is cam-based, an approach Pequignet describes as robust, easy to maintain and reliable.
The openworked oscillating mass carries a relief fleur-de-lys and uses sandblasted and grained finishing, with similar contemporary finishing on the bridges.
The mainplate is decorated with perlage, adding a more traditional watchmaking note beneath the modern surface treatment.

The Royale Paris Chrono BPM won’t appeal to someone looking for a neutral chronograph, and that’s precisely its strength.
It’s a compact, technically grounded watch with a dial that treats music as more than decoration, giving Pequignet a chronograph that feels distinctly French without leaning on nostalgia.
