Panerai’s Luna Rossa watches have become more than a branding exercise around an elite sailing team.
They’re a focused corner of the Luminor catalogue, where timing functions, robust cases and sport-ready details are given a distinctly nautical purpose.
The latest additions are the Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01768 and Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791, two stainless steel models that approach the same sailing brief from different angles.

Two Luna Rossa instruments for Naples
The watches arrive as attention turns toward the 38th America’s Cup in Naples, keeping Panerai’s partnership with Luna Rossa firmly in view.
That collaboration began in 2019 and has given Panerai a useful proving ground for modern Luminor sports watches.
Both new references keep the familiar Luminor silhouette, including the cushion-shaped case and crown-protecting bridge, but each is tailored to a different type of use.
The PAM01768 leans into short-interval timing and speed calculation, while the PAM01791 brings a travel-friendly second time zone into a more compact 40 mm case.
A left-hand chronograph built for timing runs
The Luminor Luna Rossa Chrono PAM01768 uses a 44 mm brushed stainless steel case with a polished bezel and a closed steel caseback engraved with the individual limited-edition number.
Production is capped at 500 pieces.
Its most distinctive layout choice is the placement of the chronograph pushers on the left side of the case at 8 and 10 o’clock.
That keeps the Luminor crown guard unobstructed on the right, preserving one of Panerai’s strongest design signatures while adding useful timing controls.
The central chronograph seconds hand is finished in red and white and works with a tachymeter scale printed on the rehaut.
In practical terms, the wearer can start the chronograph at the beginning of a one-kilometre course, stop it at the finish and read the average speed against the scale.
The silver sun-brushed dial is matched with rhodium-toned subdials featuring concentric azurage finishing, a detail that gives the registers a subtle wave-like texture without making the dial busy.
White Super-LumiNova X2 appears on the hands and hour markers, while grey accents on the small seconds and chronograph minute counter keep the Luna Rossa connection restrained rather than overt.
Inside is Panerai’s automatic P.9210 manufacture calibre, a 4 Hz chronograph movement with 174 components, 41 jewels and a single barrel delivering around 42 hours of power reserve.
The movement includes a Glucydur balance wheel, Incabloc anti-shock protection and refinements to the winding system aimed at improving efficiency.
The watch is supplied on a new Luna Rossa bi-material Velcro strap combining grey textile and rubber, finished with a red Luna Rossa stripe.
A black rubber strap is also included in the box.
A 40 mm GMT with the collection’s first bracelet
The Luminor Luna Rossa GMT PAM01791 shifts the concept into a smaller and more versatile format.
Its 40 mm brushed stainless steel case has a polished bezel and a sapphire crystal caseback, giving a view of the automatic P.900/GMT 12 H manufacture calibre.
The movement measures 5.2 mm thick and runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, with 186 components, 23 jewels and a single barrel storing roughly three days of power reserve.
Its functions include hours, minutes, small seconds, date, a 12-hour GMT indication and stop-seconds for more precise setting.
The dial follows the Chrono’s silver sun-brushed treatment, with white Super-LumiNova X2 and azurage finishing on the small seconds display.
A red seconds hand adds the strongest colour accent, while the GMT hand takes its shape from the profile of Luna Rossa’s sails.
The bracelet is the bigger first for this model.
Panerai has fitted the PAM01791 with a tapered stainless steel bracelet equipped with the PAM Click Release System, allowing the bracelet to be removed without tools and swapped for compatible alternatives from the brand’s strap range.
Both watches are water resistant to 10 bar, or approximately 100 metres, and Panerai pressure-tests them beyond the stated rating.

Between the left-hand chronograph and the steel-bracelet GMT, Panerai has given the Luna Rossa line two clear personalities rather than a pair of near-identical editions.
The Chrono will make the most sense for collectors drawn to the full-size Luminor case and limited production, while the GMT looks like the easier daily companion for those who want the Luna Rossa connection in a more wearable package.
